I might enjoy this challange but how much might I save and would Morgan charge extra for the privilage ?
Having asked the question I very much doubt if Morgan would copy Caterhams example

A self-build Morgan with a choice of engine would be quite attractive, but bit more complex than a Caterham due to the coach building that would be needed.

I have often thought about building a kit car, but if I did, it wouldn't be a Morgan.

I voted "never" as I dint see Morgan's as a kit car.....ever!

That said, one of my dreams for many years has been to build a car from scratch. I've never seen a kit car though that I'd like to build.

Likewise, Jay. I was getting quite close to the idea of building a 3-wheeler kit, but I couldn't quite get my head around what I'd do with it once I'd finished it.

I'd love to do it...but I do understand Morgan's position on this.

With Crunchie we own two so called kit cars, though our Westfield FW400 was only factory assembled, and an Ultima GTR. We have in the past also built kit cars and it was an interesting experience.

A Morgan kit car for me would not work as that is not their heritage, coach building is a completely different set of skills to those used to build the kit cars on offer, which in the main tend to be clothed in fibreglass bodies. Whilst many of them are built to high standards some of them are complete abortions, a Pilgrim Cobra anyone?

Personally I doubt whether we will ever see a Morgan kit car, I include the Roadsters engined in the US, which to my mind are not really kit cars, but purely a subterfuge to circumvent the import regulations.

I agree - a Morgan is what it is. If a kit car is what you want then there are plenty to choose from.

If you do a search of ebay there is a morgan kit car lookalike "thing" in white. Its obviously supposed to a Morgan but have a look at the detailing - its genuinely awful. ( item number 221929212404) A proper fake.

Or if you are terry tight-cheeks what about item 301794663398 - a triumph spitfire knocked up into a lose Morgan lookalike.

Either car should show us the Factory are best left to make the Morgan while the owners fettle and perfect them!

I have built several cars from scratch, not kit cars but ones I have disassembled and rebuilt. I'm currently doing that with my Morgan, its very satisfying but I imagine most folks would rather buy new and have the pleasure of specifying their ideal vehicle.
