From another 1.8 Zetec owner, please reconsider David. I enjoy your posts and opinions, especially about the seemingly more accountant driven nature of MMC.
I too, am saddened by their recent history.

I hope you don't leave the forum, but I can't help thinking that you might be wearing rose-tinted spectacles here. Peter made an awful lot of statements about the way he saw Morgans, and principle amongst them were that he saw owner involvement as a key part of the experience (in other words he expected owners to do an awful lot of maintenance work).

There is no doubt that objectively the products coming out of Pickersleigh Road these days are orders of magnitude better built and more durable than anything that came out under PM's tenure.

To paraphrase John Worrall in his book on restoring Morgans back in 2003, "Nobody would be cruel enough to restore a Morgan to the condition it left the factory"

I hope your not leaving because some may disagree with you? Isn't that the point of a discussion group? Heaven forbid we should all agree, where would be the fun in that, for sure that's the time I would be moving on not when there is interesting and polite debate.

A lot of the fastenings they use are absolutely rubbish. I have three of the undersized screws that hold the tool tray that have simply broken. Some fasteners have no plating and are only blacked which gives enough protection to stop corrosion while they are on the shelf in the store. The others have minimal barrel plating that lasts 10 minutes. Simply not good enough, My steering shaft where it passes through the firewall has not paint or plating at all but it does have about 1 mm of rust. This is in a car less that 3 years old!! Not good enough Morgan

I sold my 97 +4 for a 2006 Roadster to get the galvanized chassis & stainless steel bulkhead.
I want / hope the car will last

Once a year, I have an arrangement with a local garage to use one of their ramps on a Saturday morning. It allows me to get under the car and clean/touch up any areas that need attention. I use a good acrylic, black, stone-guard paint, which is brush on.


Costs me £20 + the paint and worth every penny.

Hmmm if you spend £20 a year on your car it's not such a poverty model
