Having checked 5 different forecasts yesterday, all of which had central and eastern England as being dry today, I took the train over to Melvin Rutter to collect my 2010 plus 4 this morning. My intent was to drive home across country avoiding the motorways.
The rain started just as I left the garage and set out on my 120 mile drive. Straight, flat, crowded roads, roundabouts every mile or so, idiots driving and rain coming in through all of the places previously discussed on TM. By the time I got to Brackley I was in a foul mood and beginning to wonder whether The Morgan was a big mistake.
I crossed the M40, and as I passed through Banbury, the sky cleared and the sun came out, the roads started to wind their way up and down the hills and there was practically nothing else on the road. By the time I stopped at a country pub for lunch, there was a smile on my face from ear to ear. Fantastic drive all the way home thereafter, then took the mrs out for her first spin.
Nothing is going to wipe the smile off my face this evening.
I was just about to pull out to overtake a car up on the high plateau above where I live at about midday today when we both had to brake hard for a deer that chose that moment to cross the road.
The car ahead braked very hard, with the assistance of ABS. I used cadence braking, with two lock-ups. It was not a problem because I had left a sufficient margin, but it was a clear illustration of how you are in old technology and have to use old techniques in an emergency.
I have lived here for 20 years and that's only the second deer I have seen - and the other one was on my land, at dawn.
Started the Mog yesterday, first time for a month, first turn of the key. we then went for a nice sunny drive on Gower, a long walk with the dog on the cliffs, and back home for tea. Today it is back to normal, Mog shut away from a mixture of monsoon and hurricane. Roll on spring.

.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.
Went to jnr this morning to see twin granddaughters. Light rain. Hood up. Later greased the suspension ready for tomorrow....off to Llandrindod Wells...Metrople Hotel for their "gourmet night" offer. Under 2 hrs run but some nice roads provided no slow vehicles! Returning Wed so hoping to do. Long run back...last year we went up Elan Valley to Devils Bridge then down to Lampeter and across country back to home. BIG crossed fingers time for weather...Elan Valley is stunning in good weather.
In Llandrindod after nice run up despite the rain. Why not go out in rain? Route home tomorrow undecided. Hoping to do Elan Valley then loop round via Devils Bridge/Lampeter. Decide in morning.
