Ive been approached by a client on this subject & I was just seeing if there would be a decent buyers market out there if the price was right.

A carbon fibre hard top that could fit without removing the soft top would be very interesting.

Given the variation in Morgan body tubs, I wonder if a Targa-type arrangement might be a solution, with a rear section that bolts down to the tub, and removable roof sections to bridge to the windscreen?

To my mind, the big drawback of a conventional hard top is that you can't easily remove it if the weather is nice, but with a Targa one could whip out the roof panels very easily.

Getting it to look right might be a challenge, though. You'd need a different set of side screens as the rear edge of the standard screens is angled forwards, and the Targa top would look completely wrong it it followed them.

...what used to be called a Surrey top. Very popular on Triumph TRs

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking about.

Here's an idea - a 'Winter rig' consisting of a CF Surrey Top, with replacement CF DHC-style doors with frameless wind-up windows.

For owners lacking mechanical skills, the dealer could offer a switch-over service in the autumn and spring, and could (for a small fee, naturally) offer a storage service for the unused kit to save the owner having to find room for them at home.

Say £3 to 4k for the doors and top, with fitting and storage at say £3 - 400 per year or so?

The idea on a hard-top sounds good, "if the price was right", but price is normally dependent on demand. I imagine for classic Morgan owners with Trad hoods its less complex to fit, though I read somewhere that each hard top is bespoke to the car. Ok, it may be a limited niche, but I would also be interested in a Plus 8 hardtop if it were like image below. Who knows, there must be a few Speedster owners out there that have wind-chill exposure and want to come in from the cold.

I suspect that all the discussions about hard tops are adding a few 'maybe's to Lawries poll and distorting the result.

We would end up soft, on a hot summers evening a couple of years ago stopped off at a pub near Durham city for a cold drink . The TR club was in the car park and several had TR's with the Surrey tops . But they had flying jackets on and wrapped up like it was frozen . When I asked what for they told me it was cold sunny, when I mentioned the Morgan they said "Ah morgan owners are hard buggers " . I could see a surrey top on the Aero as the body looks like a fat arse on a woman and makes the hood look tiny and out of proportion .
