Hi All,

Has anyone converted to LED or wired up bulbs in the bullet lights on the front wing of a classic morgan. I have a 2001 4/4 and these lights don't work or are not connected.

Thanks

Phil

I had them connected on the Roadster and fitted LEDs, BUT because the inside of the casting is rough and unfinished and the LEDS radiated light mostly sideways, rather than forwards, the result was disappointing.

LEDs continue to evolve and it may be that the newer versions are more effective.

I've always thought that they'd be ripe for converting. Having done the headlamps on the M3W, they simply look 'right' on todays roads..

I just replaced the bulbs with LED bulbs of the same configuration. Two seconds and done. Did the Plus 8, 4/4, Series 1 4/4. Did the rear running lights, brake lights and side markers as well. Simple thing to just replace bulbs and greatly improves safety. I have sufficient skill for that.

Cheers,

I bought some 10w DRL lights from ebay and soldered them to bayonet fittings as shown in the picture below;

The wing top lights are wired so they are on with the ignition (DRL style) and are dimmed by 50% when the (dipped) headlamps are on.

The plastic lens on the front gives a very good forward light pattern even when fitted into the wing top lamps.

Hi Phil, I converted them on my Roadster two years ago and they are brilliant (so to speak) Because of the very small casting I had trouble fitting them in with my stubby fingers and not wanting to put my bare fingers onto the LED I found a Lady mechanic in my local garage that had small fingers and she fitted them with ease, hope this helps

Also I have never liked the tail lites on modern Morgans. I used the old Lucas assy. Moss Motors has a LED modification that one can see in the daytime. Looks good IMO.
