Just logged on via phone from my ladies place in Torquay really sad to see you have been flooded. Not nice. I was flooded in a grade 2* house I had in Hampshire before I moved west. Lessons learnt nt was to get my insurers to reserve heaters and dehumidifier early so that hey cab be brought in once the water is out and the rate of drying will depend on the building materials. Remember at some point it will be a distant memory and no doubt some of those memories will be humorous or even fishy
I hope to he drying out and clean up goes well

Stewart
just catching up and find this sad news. I can only echo the good wishes of others and hope that you get power back on before too long. On that topic, what is owering your laptop/tablet/phone?
Let me know if there is any help that can be delivered from Salisbury and I really hope you will be able to join us all on the 30th.
Worry not about the Mog: unless there is water up to the dash the electics will be fine and the rest will dry out, like the house.
Old cars are best...as an acquaintance who lives, like Aeroman, beside the Thames and who was flooded a few years ago found out. Three of their 5 cars were caught. The classic E Type only needed deying out and new silencers. The SLK, just 6 months old, was a write-off because there is a lot of electronics on the floor under the carpets and under the seats. It isn't waterproof and cannot be replaced....!
We spent 8 years living close to the Rhine in NW Germany and when that floods you realise that there is nothing you can do. The village was bunded and a couple of times they put the flood boards in place. Back in the UK we bought a house on a hill, well over 200 feet above the nearest river and away from any hard surfaces. If we are flooded al Salisbury will be under 150 feet of water and millions will have been evacuated.

We're really sad to be reading what has happened to you and your family Stewart. Hopefully you can start to get to some semblance of normality fairly soon. As for your Morgan, possibly worth having a chat with Lifes for their advice on the best course of action?
All our best wishes from me and tlLB

Stewart,
Please let me add my sympathies to the many already passed on.
When our street was flooded a few years ago, we were one of the few houses not affected. The only thing we lost was the new plants I had just put into the rockery at street level. I did, however, hydraulic the engine of my Peugot 406 as I foolishly tried to follow a morris minor through a nearby flood in an effort to get home. His air intake, of course, was on the top of the engine. Mine wasn't. Thankfully the insurer agreed to pick up most of the £1900 engine rebuild, though I had to wait 3 months for it, the garage having been overwhelmed by dead Peugots.
The flood here is history now, but the neighbours had a pretty tough year living in caravans on their front drives while the houses were dried out and refitted. I'm afraid some were not back in until 10 months later, but there are many good stories to be heard in the village now. With the additional drainage work undertaken 3 years ago, we hope there will be no repeat.
Wish you all the best for for getting your life back in 2016.

Amazing spirit Stewart.
Worst thing you can do to a car when in deep water is start it.
It maybe worth leaving the battery disconnected for a while or remove the Main fuse in the fuse box so that none of the electrics are live (some are) so if there was a repeat and the ECU compartment got awash then no damage should be caused other than needing to dry out.
No need to say chin up it looks like it's skywards already!

Unfortunately Tge negligence of house bi.uilders is legendary. Many years ago my father sold some of his land from his Market Gardenig business to a developer & they built a small estate of houses. The drainage ditches that he used to clear out every back end we're about 8-9 feet deep and under heavy rains would often fill up close to the top. In their infinite wisdom the developer used an 18" drainage pipe to take the place of the ditches that were filled in. We were not surprised to hear of the flooding tgat occurred in that area.
Stewart, hope tge waters drained away and you can get a recovery plan under way. Having seen the trauma the families that have gone through when staying with us my only advice is to be strong and demanding with your insurers. Hopefully, you will get priority treatment due to the needs for Ralph. Shout if you need help.
