So I have a choice between a new and used M3W. But im wondering, just in case the numbers are close. Is it worth the extra cost to get the thicker chassis tubes, improved pedal box, the isolated bevel box. The compensator, rear pully and chassis brace are simple if expesive fixes... But is it worth a few grand difference to get one over the other?

The car is transformed by these mods, making it more reliable and better to drive. If your just planning to use it for the odd weekend short trip then the original would probably be fine and would leave some money to out right anything that breaks. If you want something you can just batter and enjoy then go for the later chassis with all the mods. Also remember that a buyer that knows what they are looking for will try and use the older chassis as a reason to get a deal. You might end up finding it hard to move on. But good luck anyway, they are loads of (all year) fun. If you have come from a bike an don't mind doing some of your own fettling then there is nothing to touch it. Having done nearly 11,000 miles in 6 months in a new car I can vouch for that! Happy New Year and Happy motoring smile

If the used car has all the mods fitted and is a good price then go for the cheaper option. In my pinion a well sorted earlier car is as reliable as new and the difference in price is significant making it a better option.

The used one only has the chassis brace, so i would have to pay for the rest, but its winter here and the dealer could do it before spring. I should know next week what the numbers are...

I guess it's a personal decision, and things like mods and reliability come into it, but there's the part of knowing and getting exactly what you want without compromise that might play part, especially in a purchase like this one that is just so emotional. I wouldn't get a used one even with the mods...and frankly, even though this might sound extreme, I wouldn't even buy a new one in stock unless it was to my exact specs and color. This is a very emotional decision, it's not a real car...you're buying an experience...so you should consider what parts of that are most important to you. For me, it's an easy one.

As an FYI/FWIW...there's this brand new Sport Tan one with dark green interior available right now, no waits..and the ask is a bit more than the one I Spec'd....even though it doesn't have the custom color I want. I just don't see the sense to that. But you might be different.

If you plan to use it more than 2000 miles per year - buy something different.
If your intention is to have the M3W for short fun trips and a service station close by a M3W may be OK for you. Do not get a second hand car older than 2015 or late 2014.
My M3W is the most unreliable driving machine I ever had - but it is fun to drive and provids lots of smiles...

Clearly you didn't buy UK made cars from BL, GM or Roots in the 1960s...!!

I got Rover and Triumph in the 70s. They were unreliable, but my M3W has many more bugs per mile than those British Leyland productions (while I did not expect that to be possible)
