Clearly you didn't buy UK made cars from BL, GM or Roots in the 1960s...!!
I got Rover and Triumph in the 70s. They were unreliable, but my M3W has many more bugs per mile than those British Leyland productions (while I did not expect that to be possible)

I'm sorry to say I have to agree with The Austrian , I had numerous cheap old cars from the 60s and 70s , none have come anywhere near the M3W in terms of unreliability . It is undoubtably the most unreliable ( but most fun ! ) car I have ever owned .
It is also by far the most expensive car I have bought and it has the highest running costs ....

As an owner of a 1962 Singer gazelle ( 1960's rootes car) and an Austin Allegro, Morris Minor, MGB, Rover P6 2000 and a classic Mini i can confirm the M3W beats them all for annoying niggles and problems.

They are all not as much fun as the M3W but more reliable in my view based on 10 months and 2500 miles in a three wheeler, that was new by the way. Where-as the above rag-bag collection of old BL tin were not new, with the exception of the year 2000 classic mini.

2015 Morgan 4/4 (Wolf fettled) previously 2014 M3W
MINI Cooper S and numerous BMC/BL relics.

Draggin, buy new, choose your own specification and colours, get the manufacturer's full warranty, treat it well from day one and keep it for ever. For £1,500 you could fly over in the Spring and stay for a few days, see it being built, meet the guys who are making it. What a story to tell your grandchildren.

Then drive it for 6 months and trade it in on a 4/4 hide

Seriously: if you have been bitten by the bug buy new. The older ones will ultimately all have more problems than the latest model which has most of the problems fixed.

If your not really sure get the cheapest second hand one you can find and if you find you really do like 3 wheeling you could trade up to a new one. Short term on a second hand one you would probably get most of your money back.

I agree with HJP, it is the most I have ever paid for a car and the running costs are comparable to my mates DB9, except insurance.

A well sorted and looked after 2013 car will be any match for a new one as all the things that can go wrong will have by now and will have been sorted.

I think it has 500 miles on it, so maybe not!

The M3W is so basic..there are just so few parts as compared to a "real" car you have to wonder how it could be so unreliable.

It's true the older cars had problems but from the 2014 model year onwards they have for the most part been resolved.

Many of us have multi thousand mile trips under our belts without undue problems - notably Alex Roy's recent trans USA record.

As far as running costs go - mine is 1/4 of the cost per mile of my previous Ferrari and just as much fun!
