For your list, Peter, is it crucial the car is a company car? Asking this as i never had a company car. However, I defenitely qualify as sometimes thoughtless idiot... I enjoy driving my wife's Audi, we also have a BMW which replaced a Jaguar. All high on your list. So i wonder if your list has any predictive value. And deduct that my next car is likely a Mercedes. However, if I were in a position to have a company car, I would ask for a Morgan.

Bert, the list only applies to UK Company car drivers!

My experience driving in the Netherlands is that drivers are far more thoughtful of other road users, especially cyclists, than here in the UK.

BUT despite everything the UK has a very, very low rate of accidents. Perhaps it is because we have to pay attention to the idiots. Could it be that Company car drivers actually make us safer?

Are you sure the idiot that caused the original post was not Swiss trained, over there most company owned tin boxes are black, hugely powerful, driven above the speed limit in all conditions, fog, snow, ice, rain, usually by a moron who is trying to make up for lacking in other areas. Put them on a proper race track and it would be wonderful entertainment watching the mess they get in and make.

And then there are white van men. But, according to statistics, it seems they are not as bad as we think they are.

White van man will have sped from the scene so less likely to be implicated!

There are so many vehicles about now that roads are "crowded".
Unthoughtful parking adds to the crowding.
People squeeze through gaps, rush instead of making progress, obvious impatience resulting in stupid actions etc .
I have over the years been leaving bigger gaps to cars in front . It makes for more relaxed driving due to more time to react etc. Mind you....you must be alert for others filling your safe gap, pushing through on your side of the road(get out of my way!), simply coming up behind far too fast etc.
On long journeys I tend to feel more relaxed on arrival.
There are opportunities to " get a move on" though but done sensibly then I feel it is ok but not behaving as if on a track.

The North has its fare share of idiots , but I find good road manners are more common in the NE no matter what car you are in, than if I head South .

I find those chevron markings on the motorways interesting. If you leave the prescribed number of chevrons between you and the car in front, you end almost going backwards with the number of drivers who then squeeze in in front of you. They just don't get the idea! Mind you, you can often make better progress in the inside lane!

Well on Friday morning with ice on the roads I was taking Harry to the woods for his walk, had the Suzuki in 4 wheel Ice drive, and was being cautious as had already called me to say she had seen a car in Seaton glide past a turning and pirouette. So there I am doing a sensible 40mph on the A3052, and can see shiny ice patches, up from behind comes Golf driver doing at least 60 mph, gets within 2 car lengths and as soon as there is a short straight over takes. you guess it another car comes round the bend he cannot see round and the idiot Golf drive takes evasive action cutting me up and makes contact with ice. The he overtook I removed right foot from throttle just in case and gently applied brake. He somehow manages to gain control clipping the verge and drives off I can see him down the next long straight doing at least 60+mph. Must be brain dead at least I think. Could have easily been a nasty accident.

I wonder what British drivers would think about South Italian driving styles... Napoli and further down including Sicily.
