Very few people have the time or inclination to be involved in any club in a responsible position. That's how it is.
So the few who step forward should be applauded for spending their time on behalf of the great unwashed. Over the years I must have spent days of my time on car club matters.
The twice monthly local MG meeting was hard enough. The organiser is ALWAYS expected to turn up, but everybody else turns up when they feel like it. The only reason I stuck it for 22 years was that nobody else wanted to do it and having started it off, I didn't want to see it die. It still continues by the way!
I've often travelled to national committee meetings. For MG's it would be Cambridge, Abingdon, or Silverstone. They were good days out in most cases, with a pub lunch at the end on good days, and I got to meet a load of interesting people over the years so I have no regrets.
At least the MSCC meetings are a bit closer, either Warwickshire or at the factory. It's no hardship attending the factory for the AGM. I've never claimed expenses, because I'm a volunteer, so I'm happy to pay my own way.
The biggest danger to MSCC is not the membership, but not attracting new officials. It will slowly suffocate if that happens.

John you are lucky would love to call me worse she dragged me shopping in a huge store in Newcastle on Sunday . I told her I was going to look at some shirts. It was an hour before she found me , and called me a few names . I was going to ask one of the staff to give a message off " June your sexy husband is waiting for you in the bedding area " . Women once they get into those places men may as well switch off. She had been out to the car , into the cafe and the loo. I was sitting chatting to a blonde in the shoe department to pass the time.

Options for those who are deeply dissatisfied with the MSCC as it is are
1) leave. 2) get more involved and try to change it from the inside. 3) start your own club.
The club has to be run as a business, but perhaps that makes it too big and unwieldy to be able to respond quickly to change with the part time staff who volunteer to run it. Were it a 'real' business the very best staff would be employed to run it, make the correct decisions and push it forward. I applaud those who do step up and do the job, it is the a thankless task. You can never do right in everyones eyes.
Perhaps the 21st century, hi tech way of doing things will gradually kill off the printed miscellany, noggins, lunch meetings and golf. TM'ers, who according to the age poll are the new old farts are gradually replacing the old, old farts.
Long live the old farts.

There seems to be a very negative view on here rgarding the centre meets where hunderds of Morganeers turn out in all sorts of weather every month.Whilst i will agree its not for eveyone most centres will have something on every month and you can chose if you want to go on a run or not. There seem to be a lot of garage queens on talk morgan a lot of talk and not much driveing. The last official run i attended with Taffmog was 340 miles cross country in a day, again not for everyone but you can pick and do whatever you want.We had a new member turn up on friday he had a one day old plus four I think he has already booked a trip, give it a go you might enjoy it or leave it in the garage then you can say youve never used the roof up in the last how many years.

Em EM, there are Centres and then there are Centres.... If TaffMog was a bit nearer I'd be a member...the last "Wicked Weekend" was a blast. My view is that 250 to 300 miles in a day is about right. But it seems I'm a minority. Indeed there are some centres (no names, no pack drill, as is said) are reluctant to arrange anything that is more than about 80 miles on Sunday Morning finishing at a nice pub for a "Sunday Lunch...!!" Drive, Dine & Sleep isn't my idea of a good day out

I love the centre events. Work makes the Noggins virtually impossible but I agree with Peter the TaffMog event was excellent as was the New Forest last year & the SWanMogOxMog Xmas dinner last weekend.

Long live the old farts. Well said Hugh. MMC are noticiblty taken a more active role with both TM and MSCC, they recognise the worth of both, ie current and possibly new owners.,

Certainly there is enough anecdotal evidence on TM to suggest that the "old guard" don't welcome change.
Late in 2014 I received a telephone call, verging on the abusive and certainly angry from an MSCC "official". My crime? Having the temerity to list an MSCC event here on TM, in an attempt to attract new members to a local MSCC Centre. This came not long after the last LMC MSCC fiasco; Since then, to be honest, I can't be ar*ed with them. My life is too short for that nonsense.
