Looks liek this thread will go on as long as "Have you driven your Morgan today"! Occasionally, somebody might throw in a question about water coolant - can't think who though....

I have just caught up with this thread, had me smiling - I lead a quiet life.
I considered Evans waterless coolant for my 4/4 a few years back as over the years it seemed to be running hotter, but discounted it on the cost basis and that on an older car there will probably something else needing replacing in the future needing as a minimum a top up of Evans assuming you can recover and reuse what was in the system. In the end I thoroughly flushed the entire system and replace the radiator, which had small leak, with an aluminium one. It now runs cooler than ever.

I'm devastated that I'm excluded from this +8 thread because of my BMW V8.
It has 4 radiators, all aluminium and the car doesn't overheat. It normally sits at 100C, but can rise to 105C.
The Radiators are all full of fluids, one is BMW Coolant, 2 others are oil and one is some sort of gaseous liquid, not sure what that does. Can anyone advise?

Peter, the gaseous liquid could well be a good German Pilsner.

Ray.Fair enough. I did a big service last year replaced the header tank and some pipes i drained the system and stuck some cleaner through i couldent believe the crud that came out.As a birthday preasent to my fourteen yer old mog i also stuck a couple of bottles of the water wetter in.Although i never hear my fan come on and my temp gauge is spot on there is a trmendous build up of heat in the cockpit. After putting the water wetter in i can confirm that it was a total waste of money the temp gauge is exactly the same. The only thing i can say the excersise was worth it just to get the crap out of the system.
Welcome Ken as mentioned there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum Em

I've not read anything other than the first and last pages.
Basically, it's all hype. As said on page one, but not in words I'd use, the SHC (specific heat capacity) for waterless coolant is less.
True it won't boil, but as a result of the above, the engine will potentially run hotter. Many engines run better and make more power when they are at a little lower temperature. I believe waterless coolant is also banned from American race cars as if it gets on the track, doesn't evaporate and leaves the surface very skid prone.
So if you have problems, fit a better radiator, not mess with coolant.

Callum and subsequently others comments re: spilled coolant are right. We've had the odd car do so at Prescott and it's a bu**er to clean track surface. Missed the lock-in Callum's comment about good water also holds - no hard water from the tap...
