Hi everyone

Well I picked up "Elrond" as we have named our new 2011 4/4 yesterday. Went for a 150k drive down the coast of Melbourne, over night Melb then the ferry home to us and another 100k to home. AWSOME we absolutely adore him, but I have two questions if I may Q1 is simple

1. Under the clock below the drivers Side of the dash is dash light dimmer for the instruments and a small push button? What does that button do, and how do I adjust the clock?

2 . When I picked Elrond up the the owner had had an issue with intermittent brake light function. It had the Aus equivalent of an MOT last week and the mechanic said he took the switch apart and lubbed it, and all was well ( not really sure how you could do that to this type of switch.
Only just got home and none of the brake lights work now, I have tomorrow now to fix it before it's Tasmanian roadworthy inspection on Wednesday which I must pass So I could do with some advice.
There are two push button switches in front of the pedal base which are obviously the brake light switches, why two?
1st stop the fuse for the brake lights, where is it?
2nd I assume these are just standard micro switches and if I short out one or both on the back and the lights work that indicates a faulty switch ( again why two )?
3 if shorting the switch out works the lights are these just normal NC micro switches I could buy at an elctronics shop?

Any and all advice really gratefully accepted

Cheers John

No 1 I think you'll find it's the odometer reset push and hold action.

The two microswitches on the brake pedal are one for the lights and the other tells the ECU to stop fuelling as you are braking is my understanding of the arrangement.

Looking at a demounted switch it should be an easy substitute and the rating will probably be stamped on it, nothing clever about it.

The fuse should be labelled and inside the ECU / fusebox on the bulkhead in front of the driver under the bonnet.

Can't help you with the clock I've never had one.

I hope some of that helps.

Good luck.

if its like the clock I removed from mine in order to fit the oil gauge in its place, there is a small 'hole' in the front of it that requires something like a biro to push it... holding it in causes the clock hands to go forward..

I used a standard microswitch from Maplins routed through a relay when I had no brake lights in a car which didn't have the switch on the pedal initially.

Q1 - on my Plus 4 the small push button adjusts the clock. Hold it in and the clock advances rapidly.

Mine too.

The trip and speedo adjustment button is under the centre of the dash.

All fixed, many thanks for everyone's help. It was a sticking switch, caused I think by the fact that the switch had been mounted so far forward in the bracket that every time you took your foot off the brake it tried to shove the button out the back of the switch. Took the switch out gave it some silicone lube to make it work again and then remounted it backed out by about 4mm. It only works right at the end it its travel anyway so it's actually better backed off a bit.

Now have a working brake light, and adjustable clock, a a trip meter I can view and reset smile .

Yup spotted the centre push button for swapping to and resetting the trip meter while kneeling down showing my wife the clock controls Peter Thanks for that smile

I think maybe Morgan need to get someone who knows nothing about the car to drive a car then spend a day proof reading the owners handbook and asking all the questions re the simple missing stuff. It's seems to be written more as a memory jogger for someone who already knows most of the answers. Like, what is the thing that looks like it should be a flashing imobiliser light in the middle of the dash for? I sure doesn't flash smile
Not complaints or anything just an observation, I actually find the manual quite charmingly written, if slightly thin on the kind of detail we are no used to in owners handbooks now. That said I would rather this than the 2 -300 page tome spread across three thick books that my wife got a couple of years ago with a Merc. there was a short novel just covering the Internet conected Command Control centre in the middle of the dash. Could not be bothered reading and neither could she, so we never really understood how it all worked, never really missed it either smile
This is at least a manual I have read cover to cover, what's not in there I can discover here.
I am also on a Lotus forum which is equally friendly and helpful, with everyone contributing for the greater good. It seems Lotus and Morgan people have very similar outlooks, a passion for the Make, their and other owners cars and the people that drive them, and a shared enjoyment, a real sense of community now matter how many miles we are separated by.

Cheers John
