Just a strange thought. What if the back end was set up with light cart springs assisted by a weaker coil over shock absorber, and possible tramp bars. Anybody tried it.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Parabolic leaf springs would be a satisfactory solution and have been used on many modern cars. Essentially it is one spring, so no interleaf friction, but they are a very complex thing to design and manufacture. Coils are much easier.

I seem to recall Dan White designed some parabolic springs for Morgans some years back. IIRC a chap called Achim Gloger tried them fitted to his Plus 8. I've not seen him on any of the forums for a good few years now, so I suspect he might have sold his Morgan.

Parabolics can have more than a single leaf, numerous Series Land Rovers have Parabolics with more than one leaf although I believe that Transit vans used to run with a single leaf parabolic rear spring.

The after-market parabolics supplied for MGB's were under-engineered and on V8's soon twisted into an S shape. Quite a lot had to be replaced. Familiar subject eh?

Back in 1966 I bought a new Midget from John Sprinzel in Bayswater a well known rally driver and MG dealership. We fitted Konis to the rear with great success after the initial rear floor failure ! He designed some brackets and had them made worked a treat. He used a Midget on the Monte Carlo Rally fitted with the conversion. I was standby second driver/navigator but sadly didn't get to go.
