The 1.8 engine responds very well to fitting throttle bodies and a sports exhaust. The throttle bodies and engine systems are run by a separate ECU.

Another ECU question please. My ECU is locked down or cannot be accessed it’s very frustrating as I can’t have it mapped. It’s physically identical to the 1.8 Duratec Mondeo which was its origin I believe. Obviously the map file will be different. I’m so tempted to just buy one for 30 quid on Ebay and give it a go. If it works I can at least have it remapped. Does anybody know what my chances of success might be regarding getting the car to run, or is just it folly? You could try, but TBH I wouldn't hold out much hope. The standard Mondeo ECU might have stuff in there like preventing the engine from being started if a door's open, that kind of stuff. But you could probably find out what pins are active and what signals they expect. that would tell you whether your plan is feasible or not. Or you could just fit throttle bodies instead, as Peter says.

I’m coming to the realisation that the Omex solution with throttle bodies might be the way forward.
After fitting an Omex ECU how much functionality remains with the original ECU? Are you still reliant on the original to any extent (things like fuel pump & odometer etc.)? Reading through the Omex specification it looks like it has all the capability to avoid piggybacking.

Piggyback omex on my plus 4 2L duratec so presume the ford ecu is doing some stuff that omex can't do ! Never heard of this type of setup before till getting this mog with TB's , works fine though !

My Aero Racing tuned 4/4 had an Omex ecu piggybacked to the Morgan one which in turn was piggybacked to the Ford one!

Williams did a 'remap' on my 1.8 duratec. It seemed to liven things up a bit.

Does the Omex specification ECU provide an OBD2 plug in? Without this port, over here you could not pass the mot on an Euro 4/5/6 level.

Thanks Peter. I assume the original engine management loom remains in place with orig connectors disconnected, and does that not cause the engine management light to come on?

The signals to the engine warning light are provided by the Omex ECU on the Plus 4 and there is a little bit of wiring to organise. I'm not sure what they do on other models.
Heinz. The OBD2 port is connected to the original ECU, I suppose it is the same on the Plus 4 SS and the Baby Doll, consequently it shows a lot of errors. Isn't there an exception for small volume production?
I don't know but a bit of clever wiring would probably provide the signals required to the original ECU. It depends on just what it is that they need to see for the control.
