I am slowly getting my 1953 +4 re-assembled while I am waiting for some machine work to be done on the engine. I need to make it look more like a car in order to placate my wife. I want to screw the doors back on (removed for painting). The previous owner lost the screws and has some generic cad plated hardware store screws for it. Is there anything special about the screws, like the pitch or anything? Can I just buy stainless steel screws at the hardware store or should they be some funky British threads? Is there a master Morgan stainless hardware kit that can be ordered so I don't have to constantly hunt for SS bits?? I plan to take a screw out of the hinge still on the door and compare it with a SS screw at the hardware store. I am contemplating ordering the SS door hardware kit ($22)from Morgan Spares of New England, but wanted to consult with the cognoscenti before placing the order.

Nothing spooky about the screws. They have (off course) to be countersunk, and in the appropriate length. If you go for AISI 316 you will never have to think about them Again. Remember to grease the threads with i.e. aluminium grease to avoid seizing

The original screws were made of cheap steel but Stainless Steel is better in my opinion. We had a dispute at a concourse years ago when a fanatic insisted that Morgan used slotted screws (rather than Philips screws) until the sixties, but most of us agreed that Philips are better.
