The drain plug on my radiator (2007 +4, plastic rad) has been weeping for a while. I have tried tightening the tap a couple of times which seemed to help.
But I'm hesitant to tighten it anymore if case I break it.
It is not a major issue but it is annoying, I thought about unscrewing the tap a few turns and putting on plumber's PTFE tape and then screwing back up.
Any thoughts or experiences?

Unfortunately it would mean draining but I think you would have a higher probability of success if you took the tap completely out and then wrap in PTFE tape.

Thanks, Unfortunately I think you may be right, I will start with the easy method first and resort to draining if it fails.

Maybe not fully draining if you could bung it and apply the tape quickly....should be feasible if you have the tape ready and get it on the thread the right way around quickly enough.

Agree PTFE tape should sort it.

Good idea, I once tried that with my central heating but the bung I made did not fit so I put my thumb over the end of the pipe, but then could not reach the new coupling I had left on the table!

I had a leaking plug on mine although metal rad after going over rough ground.
I put some k.seal into radiiator not had a drip since.

Your not a million miles from Leicester, if you want to pop over I have a box of several hundred O rings in a range of sizes, these kind of drain plugs normally have a rubber O ring which hardens and fails. Your welcome to grab a few of each size and take back to play if you want? I agree though PTFE is just as good and also the suggestion of KSeal is a good one. These radiators have a history of failure I am afraid although normally the top hose outlet or the overflow elbow goes first, Peter at Mulfab always recommends running the cars with KSeal added to the coolant as a safety thing.
