Some months ago S1 Aero TMers discussed starter motors, clicking, batteries and other life threatening starting issues. Philipo informed us that his friend had used a dehumidifier with great success, eliminating the starting problem. I investigated and decided on the carcoon type chamber, then purchased a Cair o port and set it up about 4 weeks ago. This version consists of a robust type tent structure suspended on an exo skeleton which allows access in and out from the chamber without dismantling.
3 fans keep the chamber inflated and moisture free. I left the car in the chamber through cold and damp weather for 10 days before taking it out. Normally a start would be proceeded by starting failure for 2 or 3 attempts due to a moisture build up somewhere in the system. This time was different immediate start and 3 subsequent starts at various intervals over recent weeks have all been first time. I had tried quite a few expensive solutions prior to this, with temporary success, here's hoping this is the final solution.

Yes I've used one of these Cair o ports since 2003 and rate them highly. It's getting a bit tired now, a small repaired tear and the velcro is weak but the fans are still turning and it still works perfectly well after nearly 13 years of constant 24/7 use!

However I think I will treat the car to a replacement one soon.

I am fortunate in that I have a very dry garage so I can not comment as to whether or not the problem exists with trads. It does, however, highlight the fact that there's some problems with electrical contacts on the aluminium tub. I would feel inclined to run a substantial earth strap directly from the battery to the engine. I would also find the point at which the earth strap is conected to the bodywork/tub and cover the point with grease to protect it from oxidation. Bad electrical contacts on aluminium are notorious for causing corrosion.

I have an airchamber which looks almost identical. I have had problems with the circuit boards burning out on the fans, the supplier wanted £29.95 each for them, found the same part number on eBay for £2.75, they are PC cooling fans! Since changing both not had a failure in 5 seasons.

I purchased a Carcoon chamber possibly 15 years ago.
I used it from November through to March and have had no problem.
unfortunately it's getting a bit brittle now but still does the job.
This year I have put in better insulation for the garage and a
de-humidifier which seems to be doing a good job judging by the amount of water coming out!

I will be delighted if this does fix the starter motor "clicking" issue. TBOMK this issue has only affect S1 Aeros. Are there S2 or later owners on here who know different.

In spite of changing the starter motor on mine 15 months ago I did get the dreaded click very recently. Car did start though after third or fourth push of button. So I may also end sealing up my wooden garage and keeping a dehumidifier in there.

Can I ask what size you elected to buy please? And if you were buying again would you go for the same size or larger?

I have been thinking about something like this as I have a 3 bay garage (open between cars) with sliding doors that is impossible to insulate effectively and I suspect that even a dehumidifier wouldn't work because of the severe lack of sealing etc. Seems the only way is to put the car in some sort of sealed environment as you have done - and glad to hear that your solution is proving effective.

Well worth while if leaving the car garaged for any time.

My Garage is integral to the house - so no real probs - other than dust!!

But if/when I go away for a length of time - hopefully when I soon retire...I will use one of these.

Thats if I am not touring Spain in the Mog!!!!
