Wondered if anyone had experience of the above company who provide paint and glass protection products?

I currently use Zymol Concours with Lehm Klay preparation. Whilst I am more than happy with the gloss produced by that it might be interesting to try something else.

I don't know if it is the same sort of thing, but we usually have our town cars treated with Supaguard (or similar) as we don't wax them at all.

I haven't thought of having our p&j's done with this treatment, preferring instead to go the carnuaba wax route; Swissvax these days.

However, in the latest edition of Octane on page 133 there is an article on the Managing Editor's MGB GT and he has this to say about Gtechnic:

"It is looking good too. Knowing that it's going to get used fairly hard, I perhaps a little cheekily took up the offer of a paint protection treatment demonstration from Hertfordshire-based Gtechnic.

The treatment starts with the P1 Nanoscopic polish, reckoned to remove much less paint than a conventional cutting compound. This is then followed by C1 Crystal Lacquer, which is said to form a chemical bond with the paint, making for a long-lasting protection (in other words, I don't have to wax it often...). Oh, and then there's the G1 Glass Coating, which should last two years, and reduces smear - I can vouch for that already because it was pouring rain on the run to the MOT Station and the water was beading and running off the screen to the point that I could have got away without using wipers.

As for the paintwork, it looks great but of course I'll have to keep you informed on how long it lasts. I'm not usually one to go on about polishing products but I'm optimistic about this one. Perhaps it will make me faster on the track too..."

I have tried Supaguard and found it pretty good for everyday protection. However like you haven't used it for the special cars preferring to use Zymol which I imagine is very similar to Swisswax in effectiveness and cost. To be honest I find Zymol hard to beat.

It was the article in Octane that made me think about Gtechniq. The MGB which it had been applied to looked particularly glossy. That Gtechniq is nanomeric made me more interested having just tried Car Plan Nanomeric Glass Treatment. I picked that up in the bargain basement section of Halfords for five pounds and was pleasantly surprised although I think the product may now have been discontinued. I usually use Audi rain repellant (which was developed for the rear window of the A2) on my windows. It's extremely good and much more durable than Rain X etc - if you would like the Audi part number for that please PM me.

On the subject of Gtechniq - will give them a call and if I do buy some will let you know how it works out.

Hi Brian,

Have just spoken to Gtechniq. Very helpful but not quite a straightforward application.

Apparently the C1 Crystal lacquer needs to be applied by a professional detailer. It can if handled wrongly crystallise onto paintwork needing sanding down to remove it!

Think I will stick to Zymol or Supaguard!

For years I've tried to find the ultimate paint protection/paint finnishing products and, almost by accident, I tripped over Protech in Monte Carlo about four years ago.

An outstanding product (and Company) by any standards that I've never seen bettered....check them out at www.protech.mc

The main treatment is a professional aplication (a day and a bit for an Aero) but then easily maintained by the end user.

Needless to say, we (Defendall) are the Scottish agent for Protech!!

My Aero has it applied and this car was well admired on my Defendall stand at Cheltemham.

I don't know if you've seen this guys site, he wet-sands the cars when detailing to remove orange-peel, particularly on BMW's.

I must say that he gets some excellent results and he is highly praised on PH, but it looks fairly drastic to me.

Maybe Russell can tell us more about what is involved with ProTech and how it works and how it is different to the Zymol/Swissvax or Zaino products? Their site is not very explanatory and won't accept our postcode either, so I don't know who applies it locally?

I agree wet-sanding to remove orange peel seems a bit drastic from my point of view too!

Will see what Russell has to add as regards advantages of Protech over Swissvax/Zymol.

Suspect that the law of diminishing returns applies on the polishing front!

Wet sanding (minimum 1200grit + soapy water) works well on cellulose - I've used that on the MGB to get rid of orange peel, but I would have thought it risky on lacquer for obvious reasons.
