The ends are squared off with rolled ends not just cut off.

I have stock pipes with baffles removed and the Garage 56 air cleaner, a perfect combination.

It revs much more freely and really picks its feet up so much so that 100mph is now no problem. Where as before it used to start an run out of steam about 80ish

Mol and Squirlz posted a detailed step by step DIY for this, found here: Wrapped headers, removed exhaust baffles and cats

Early M3W pipes don't take the heat of the drilling well and can warp being the thinner walled model.

Hi Laurens

Tools for the job:

Cordless drill.
45cm long 3/8" drive extension bar.
Chuck adaptor to drive the extension.
38mm hole cutter, you will probably need 3 of these.
Socket to drive the hole cutter.
Hammer.

Method:

1. Remove exhaust pipe and secure in a vice being careful not to crush the pipe.

2. Attach hole cutter to extension bar and hold in place with some insulating tape. The tape is just to stop it falling out of the socket.

3. Slide the hole cutter down the exhaust pipe from the front until it touches the first baffle.

4. Give the extension a sharp tap with the hammer, this will centre punch the baffle with the pilot drill so it will not wander when drilling.

5. Attach hole cutter and extension to drill and off you go, nice and steady remember it is stainless steel and very hard. Use cutting oil or tapping grease to lubricate.

There are 3 baffles in each exhaust, 1 in front of the silencer and 2 behind.

It took me about 20 minutes per baffle to drill out and I blunted 3 hole cutters, don't buy cheap ones, as if you would.

People with the Morgan Performance exhausts can simply unscrew the end piece and pull the baffle out !

I got my upgraded car back today.

First thought: what have I done! It now sounds harsh and obnoxiously loud. Like a Harley with a loud exhaust.

But by the second drive this changed to "maybe it's ok..."

And now I think I like it. It is certainly quicker. I hit the Rev limiter several times, which I don't remember doing before. The dealer says 15hp more, which is quite a lot if you only started with 85!

There is new noise though. I have learnt to ignore strange noises as part of Morgan 3 wheeler ownership. But this one is very loud and sounds like metal on metal, right from the new exhaust mountings near the (expensive 2014) heat shields. Hmm. Usually these things go away on their own I suppose.

I finished off my new rear mud guard today. It is now shorter than before and can support itself while being attached only on the swing arm side. There is a metal support rod that runs on the underside of the plastic fender that gives it some spring so that when you put the plastic boot tray in they are held tight together.

Very neat. I wonder how the new option factory one compares.
