I have a friend in Calgary, Canada with a 1996 +4 Rover T16 engine. Is there an Owner on Talk Morgan, with enough mechanical ability and knowledge of the T16? I think it is the only one in North America.

There are probably lots of T16 +4 owners on here, just ask away, someone will have an answer.
The T16 replaced the M16 engine and comes from the Rover 800 saloon , it is a reliable, naturally aspirated straightforward engine. It was mostly fitted in a plus 8 body. I have had my 93 for 4 years with no real issues.

Worth getting a Haynes manual for a Rover 800 for techie stuff. (probably available on line also) any other non engine info will be in the handbook.

Thanks jbk. I think the Haynes Manual will do the trick. Here in Seattle I have never heard of a Rover 800. All we get is Land Rover's. Lots of them.

Not the only Plus 4, T16 in North America.

My 1994 purchased new in Virginia and sold my sold May, 2015. It went from Maryland to Illinois.

I just cleared out some paperwork last month including Rover 800 series workshop manual I obtained in the UK.

Believe Rover 800 was front-wheel drive sedan.

I had no luck finding oil filters on this side of the Atlantic but readily available online.

I believe the T16 was also used in some Land Rover Discoveries, not sure whether they were exported though. I believe they were underpowered with just a 2 litre in such a heavy vehicle.
The gearbox will be a LT77 or the later R380 both used in the plus 8.
The bell housing to mate the gearbox to the engine was from an LDV van as the engine was a front wheel drive in the saloons
The T16 was also used in Rover 200/400/and 600 saloon (sedans), not sure if they were exported. There is a Turbo version of the T16 engine also though i am not sure if any were factory fitted, MGB owners sometimes fit these as an upgrade.

Those Discoveries were sold in UK. An attempt to raise vehicle sales in company car market at the time as the income tax was lower... Plus for some export markets (sales tax?).
Can't remember the designation now though (SLi?).

mine was a great car. But it kept having ECU failures. Easy to replace but a pain.

Sounds like a cooling problem for the ECU...

I have found that when the ECU plays up, (usually when the engine does not fire first time in damp conditions) I employ the old faithful computer cure, switch it off (at the red switch) count to five (its a plus 4 after all) and it works fine. Its a very simple fuelling ECU after all, the previous owner 4 years ago had this issue (according to records) and the dealer could find nothing wrong with the ECU.
I now think of it as a quirk rather than a problem, If you don't do a reset it takes ages to get it running,

No mine would decide to idle perfectly or at 3500 rpm or stall.
Trust me replacing is the solution
