Supermarine Spitfire A thing of beauty, accepting its ultimate use was lethal and with respect to those who lost their lives on both sides, you have to admire not just the the engineering but the asthetics of the Spitfire.

With a bit of lick i'll be around for the 100th aniversary.
The Supermarine Spitfire is both aesthetically and aerodynamically a delight: I know two pilots and they both say that flying it is simply wonderful: a Spitfire is responsive, but never unpredictable and especially when approaching the stall the old lady grumbles and shakes a bit before finally stalling. Other aircraft, like the Mustang, have a vicious stall and they demands great care.
An example of the old saying, "if it looks good it probably is good"

A pivotal day in British History.
Without the Spitfire, the outcome of WWII could have been very different.

For those of you interested in the Battle of Britain there is a very interesting book entitled The Most Dangerous Enemy, A History of the Battle of Britain, by Stephen Bungay, Aurum Press. An eye opener, based on new archival evidence.
