Your a very naughty man Clipper !

Strangely enough out of all the bits and pieces I've packed in the car for trips to France in various tin tops over the years, Duct tape is the one essential I have had to use in emergencies and so I would count it essential

I had to use it to tape secure a headlight cluster that came out of an Audi A4 when my best friend accidentally reversed his Porsche into me coming out of a junction of a Campanile when on a skiing trip to France

And then again it became essential years later when my rear quarter light in an M Class Merc was punched through in an attempt to steal something from the car when parked up in a picnic spot in Brittany

It is so essential that for obvious reasons I never travel in the Mog without a roll of duct tape but pleasingly I haven't had to use it yet other than I use it to prop open the rear of the hood when I need to put the hood up

In fact just as Douglas Adams asserted the towel as an essential companion to intergalactic travel, I would count duct tape as the essential Intercontinental driving companion

Thanks gentlemen.

From the multitude of advice there are certain items that stand out from the others in terms of utility. I think therefore that I should limit myself to:

Duct tape
Screwdriver
Corkscrew
That gorgeous blonde

In fact, as a minimalist, I will opt for:

RAC European cover
That gorgeous blonde

You may want to carry a spare relay and a few fuses. This would allow you to omit the RAC cover if the young lady has appropriate mechanical skills!

Thanks Andrew,

That's good advice - especially regarding the speed bumps! I 'bottomed out' in Gloucestershire last year returning from Shelsley Walsh and it sounded terrible! I checked it out when I got home and there was no damage - but the sound was awful!

I'm looking forward to the trip - it's a test run to prove to the wife that the Mogster is in its element touring France and Italy!

I agree + some Merguez and chipolata sausages from a good charcuterie, essential for the coming summer barbys
