Simon

The cut off date for trading in protected species has been set at 1947. Anything that is pre '47 (that has been worked or mounted) can be bought and sold within the EU. This includes all ivory, rhino horns, striped and spotted cats etc. The law is very strict and anything after this date has to have necessary paperwork. Many items including those listed above, have a total worldwide ban. It's a difficult task, to find items that are in good condition and are also so old (and rare). ebay has turned up some amazing finds! Harvey

I would imagine the difficulty of the task makes the collecting (and the collection itself) even more enjoyable?

There are parts for certain watches I own which are no longer available as NOS (new old stock), so I now have to look for them on the secondary market. It is like finding a needle in a haystack but I actually enjoy it. smile

Come on, who is next? Surely we have more collectors on the site?

Stamps anyone mail wink

not me Simon, actively avoid collecting, got too much stuff as it is. Can appreciate a fine watch though, current one and only timepiece is a Rolex Sub LV, bought my first Sub 20 years ago and the then traded for a Panerai and a couple of swaps later back to a Sub. My wife is the collector, 6 Peking bantams, 3 cats[1-birman, 2 -British shorthair], 2 border terriers, a pre-war tortoise called Leon and Eric the guinea pig, sorry Harvey but they are all alive and kicking grin2

Can't see the previous two Boshly...

Collect Land Rovers... Hmmm, but only one at a time, whereas I have two Mogs wink . Even my motorcycle collection is down to one and that's for sale.

Film photo equipment and amateur radio equipment - though all for use - are proably the closest I go to collections. Even empty scrumpy bottles get recycled nowadays!

Firearms of most types are of interest, however the development over the ages is the most interesting. Some of my collection is here.

Approx. 1800 model

Around 1850

Around 1860

Prior to having a Morgan to feed and maintain there were a few things we enjoyed. We collected some artwork from a few popular artists. Nothing serious, mostly high street limited/signed stuff.

My favourite is an artist called Govinder Nazran who sadly died about Christmas last year very unexpectedly. We met him a number of times at events the gallery ran to promote the new releases and he was wonderfully normal. His passion was for cats and the mystical side of their nature. You don't own a cat, you are permitted to serve it. I wonder if that was the link to Moggies which result in the Aero purchase, odd world ? Who knows what goes on in the subconscious ?

High Res pictures are here as I realise some of them are a little difficult to picture ! http://s690.photobucket.com/albums/vv266/alistairmutch/Govinder/

I guess the tactile nature of the work does not show in the pictures very well but it does seem to reflect the nature of the animal itself.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
