Hi , Our club is doing a second run of its current badge and we are looking at mixing the colours up a bit . We would like to use the standard Morgan Sport Red in the outer ring of the badge. Our badge manufacture is asking me for the PMS code for this colour and I cannot seem to find it.
Any assistance would be most gratefully received.
Thanks

Hello
It is as given to me by MMC
Colour - Sports Red Paint code - 74PE - Nexa auto colour
When I ordered this paint for my Wolf Performance valance there was a slight colour difference, being slightly lighter. I was told this was due to it being a modern water based paint and that the gas in the aerosol effects the colour.
However I have since discovered that in the hand book it says Corsa Red which I had my suspension it was Ferrari Red.

Thanks Adrian.
I sort of suspected that Corsa Red and Ferrari Red and Morgan Sports Red might all be the same colour. I have a PMS code for Ferrari Red so I might go with that.
Thanks again
Brian

Getting a perfect match from an aerosol is near impossible. Even with black. There's more than one Corsa Red as well. The one I used on my Roadster spoiler was pretty close but not perfect. I have an aerosol of Sport Yellow but that has a green tinge so quite a way off a match. A FIAT yellow is as good a match as anything. Even a genuine VW touch up stick doesn't quite match the paint on my Golf. It's infuriating! The thing to remember with aerosol cans is that they need a really good shake up. If you don't get a perfect mix, the first squirt removes some of the recipe and after that it will never match. Metallics are impossible without pro equipment........

Brian, PMS (pantone matching system) relates to printing colours rather than car spray colours so its really a visual reference. Possibly 185C / 186C (from my pantone book) C stands for coated, as in coated (gloss) Paper. With printing inks the type of surface will affect the colour. The safest way is to send a colour sample and request that they match that, then they can choose from their Pantone book. Hope that helps, john K

Colour will never be fully understood, as Dave.W mentions the aerosol changes the character of the paint although it is the additive dryer that is mixed into the formula that gives a Green Tinge, not the propelent, the dryer is not WATER WHITE, a term used in the industry for clear, it is impossible to get it water white because of the drying chemicals that are added.
Here below I list two instances where we as suppliers endure. With my previous Supplying Manufacturer.
The Manufacturer supplies us 1 ltr cans of Ford Diamond White ( Ready Mixed) several batches and no problem, then a batch arrives, on opening a can it is pink, now to give you an idea of Pink imagine:- White =. 12.00 on the clock red =. 3.15 This Batch was 1.05
We contacted the Manufacture, their answer, use it it will be fine, we send it to Distributors, we receive phone call after phone call of complaints of the shade, we advise use it the Manufacturer will stand by it.
Result= not one person in 600 cans complained, when the paint was mixed with hardener and thinner then sprayed perfect match.
In the same realms we received a batch of a mixing Toner, it was different from previous batches, it was a blue Toner but was edging on far to green, yet again we made contact, Answer use it, it will be fine, result, not one complaint.
Don't ask me what they do, they will not share the information,
Finally remember there are thousands of shades of Black as well as any other colour, so never expect to pick a ready made can up from Halfrauds and expect it to match your car.
