I was equally impressed by his reaction afterwards ... very cool, collected and professional. To go through that, be coherent in interviews etc. so soon afterwards.

I did wonder if the "halo" would have made it harder to escape.

That question was put to Jenson Button and he responded that the marshals would have rolled the car over and removed the Halo and then Alonso. I did wonder if it would be as simple as that, I bet Alonso is out buying lottery tickets.....one lucky chap to walk away from that!

Was really nice to have him say "I saw a gap and crawled out fast as I could because I new my mum would be watching, and I wanted her to see I am fine"

The real thanks must go to Nikki.

Since his partial incineration he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make F1 cars as safe as possible. I'd say he has succeeded.

All that was left was the drivers safety cell. It worked and Alonso simply wriggled out and walked away. But i'll bet he has a few aches this morning.

I think that car is a "Cat A" write off...!

Peter,
Nonsense, a bit of elbow grease and that will buff up ready for it's next owner.!!!!!!
I completely agree re, Nikki, I met him once and he is a charming chap who, as you say, has worked his socks off to get safety to this level thumbs

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Don't forget Jackie Stewarts major contribution to racing safety.

Thanks for Sid Watkins and Senna are due too.

Alonso's reaction was that of the commensurate professional that he is - like us all he likes a little moan every now and then.

This goes alongside his deckchair picture last year mid race when the car failed him.
