Lot's of fun. We've got a '97 that SO bought back in '97. It's also a simple car to work on.

That's true of any tall vehicle driven outside the envelope. A Land Rover Defender, Suzuki Jimney and many others are no different.

Hi Tuftie If it's a JK then snap it up. Had a four door for 8 years, 90k trouble free miles, one of the few cars in the world that can cope with any conditions you might encounter e.g. flood, snow, really rough terrain, high kerbs, ascents and descents etc and can cruise comfortably at 90. Engine is a 2.8 Italian VM diesel which should be good for 200k. Great winter car for carrying anything and everything and in the summer roof off, doors off and hit the beach. As capable as, but much more comfortable than, a defender and not nearly as common as a disco. It's American, so made of cardboard and chocolate but having a real Tonka car makes up for that. Crikey, hadn't realised how much I like it. Cheers JC ps..You'd have to really want to end it all to roll it.

been offered one, good deal, lots of fun or ridiculous..... They are good at what they do, but you have to make big compromises to use them on the road. I have a MB G-Wagen, Defender 110 and a Wrangler 2.9 in the family fleet. I would rank the on-road handling in that order. The rear axle of the Jeep is so lively that you are very unstable under hard braking and high-speed direction changes. Partly this is the physics of a tall car, but it is worse than the other two off-roaders I run. I'm sure you will drive your Wrangler carefully and within its capabilities, but got forbid some idiot forces you to take extreme avoiding action. I won't drive my one on road (but the won't drive either of the other two - proving that it really is all about personal preference)

We've got loads of them stateside...I've driven a few dozen over the past few years. They're heaps of fun if you're doing anything but the daily commute. The suspension can be a little jarring for everyday driving - but that's a personal preference. They're usually incredibly capable for what they're built to do. There are thousands over here who drive them daily and my best mate has daily driven his '06 since high school and has put nearly 230K miles on it.

Have to admit, while I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Land Rover man I quite fancy one for a while. I loved the CJ-7 I had out in Hamwaii (Oahu) all those years ago...

I had a 2007 4 door JK unlimited, with loads of kit, (lamps, winch, bullbar, lift kit, rock sliders, mud tyres etc etc) FABULOUS car wish I had not sold it 7 years of being able to go where ever I liked. Harder ride than a Rangie or Merc but a more capable of roader. Never once felt like rolling, just just drive it like a tall, heavy off-roader not a Lotus. So many combinations of roof with the Unlimited too I'd have another in a flash.
