I am shocked and saddened at what has happened today in Brussels. I have no doubt the stories of heroism and bravery of those involved, especially those tending the dying and injured, will come out as time passes, and I will be the first to doff my cap to them.

Sadly, it is virtually impossible to secure every single location in the world from this type of attack and atrocity, especially if we wish to exercise our right to freedom, and today's events could have happened just as easily in any one of our own towns and cities. There but for the grace.....

So my thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Belgium and all those who have suffered as a result of this mindless attack.

Two weeks ago yesterday I was in the same airport, flying home from the Antwerp Classic Car Show so might consider this to be a 'near miss'....just like the one I had in The Mulberry Pub in Birmingham in November 1974....drinking there the day before it was blown up!

Couldn't agree more.

Watched the unfolding story on and off throughout the day, and yes you're right. Only a matter of time before some madness arrives over here again.

Who was it said the price of peace is eternal vigilance, or something? Very apt.

A very sad day for Belgians everywhere.

A very sad day. I think that it is inevitable that something will happen over here as well at some stage.

The Yale Book of Quotations quotes Curran, and adds the following note: Usually quoted as 'Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,' which has been attributed to Thomas Jefferson, but no one has ever found this in his writings.

There are so many soft targets in any city, it is impossible to protect them. The answer is to take away the reasons behind why people become extremists, a more equal fairer world.

We're off to Brussels for a city break in April. Looking forward to the beer and the beautiful architecture.

The current threat level in the UK is 'Severe' meaning an attack is likely.

Thanks Steve. Good advice! We've still got a couple of weeks to go so hopefully it may have calmed down a bit by then.

Truly horrendous.
Been listening to the radio reports all day and now trying to catch up on the TV variety.
I hope no-one here is directly affected and really feel for those involved.
Keep aware people!

An awful day... thoughts with the friends and families of those killed and injured.

Another cowardly act from terrorists who need to kill unarmed innocent civilians to further their peaceful cause.

Sadly there are so any opportunities in a city to cause mayhem. My thoughts and prayers are with the injured, the medics and those otherwise affected.

These misguided savages must not, cannot, win - solidarity with Belgium
