All very reminiscent of the IRA attacks on England in the 70s.
Caroline lived through the "Troubles" in N Ireland through the 70s. Although her experiences haven been, to a degree, put to one side the events today left her shaken.
I doubt she will ever enter an airport again.

I expect this period will last 20 to 30 years. It will not be a lot of fun and the European freedoms of the last 30 years will soon be a memory.

The unfortunate thing is as Paris demonstrated it can be any public place that can be targeted and not just airports.

Stop the planet, I want to get off!

In a matter of a few years there will be whole cities that are no-go areas for non-muslims. We are only a short time away from the rule of ShariĘżah in many parts of Europe. The "moderate" Muslims are being pressed under by the radicals and the ingress of "migrants" and the birth rate is rapidly turning non-muslim elements of the population into minorities.

There's an area of my town that the EDL/NF/BF etc. constantly claim is a no-go area for white people. I go there to do my spice shopping and never get any hassle or enmity. My study partner for a year of my degree was a Muslim woman from a traditional family and this gave me a real insight into Muslim "communities" and culture. Yep, there's issues! Not a surprise really - there are issues everywhere. What has really struck me by talking to people of all persuasions is that most are just trying to get on with life and achieve the same aims as everyone else on the planet. I hate to say it but I do agree with Tony Blair that we probably need to be more aware and confident of what exactly our liberal values are and to be prepared to assert and argue these.
I'm actually more worried by Trump.

No question that multiculturalism has been a disaster. The problem is not one of race, but of beliefs. It has to be right that new arrivals in a country should be expected and required to respect the mores and traditions of their hosts. For this they don't need to abandon their religion, but should be obliged to try and fit in.

When many Zoroastrians left Iran in the 7th century when the country was overrun by the Muslim hordes, they arrived (as the very first boat people) in the Gujarat.

Legend has it that the when the first boats arrived, the local Hindu Raja sent a pitcher brimming with milk to the refugees, to indicate that like the pitcher, the place was already full. The Zoroastrian priest poured sugar into the receptacle (which did not overflow) and asked the raja's representative to return it to his master. He said this was to indicate that like the sugar in the milk, the Zoroastrians would mix with his people and enrich their society. Named after Pars, the province of Persia whence they came, for over a thousand years the Parsees have indeed mixed successfully with the indigenous people without muscling in on their way of life, and have certainly enriched India both culturally and economically.

Sadly, this sort of approach is not in the nature of many followers of Islam; it is an aggressively proselytising religion, which is at about the same point in it's cycle as was Christianity back in the days of the inquisition, where any faith or belief is to be stamped out rather than tolerated. Just see how you get on if you try to establish a Christian church in Saudi Arabia.

I assume that many of the families of the domestically produced terrorists in Britain and in Europe are in receipt of state benefits. It is hard in the aftermath of yesterday's horrific events, or the events in Paris and London to see why the families of suicide bombers should be allowed to continue to remain in the country, still less that they should be allowed to continue to benefit from the largesse of the taxpayer.

I couldn't agree more!

There are people with extreme views of life from all backgrounds, it's not just followers of the Muslim faith. Some people are just warped & twisted either from nature or nurture, and not limited to religion.

It's not that long ago that many Americans were funding the IRA because they thought it was cool to be Irish, and discreetly ignored all the sectarian killings and mass murder that the 'cause' brought.

My neighbour owns several student accommodation houses and the best tenants he's had are four Muslim girls. They don't smoke, drink, party or have men back and clean the place when they go.

It's a short hop from arguing to fighting, and look what happens when mobs rule. We have to be vigilant to ALL threats to our normality, and yes that includes that madman Trump.

Not at all! Our liberal western values are the victory over centuries of bloodshed, ignorance, slavery, female suppression and similar malices.
Name any better century you would like to live in or any better place on earth than the civilised western world.

There are troubles, but our society is strong enough to overcome them.
Millions and millions were killed during and after the last WW fighting dictatorship and now people see the future at risk because a couple of idiots throwing bombs every now and then.
