Well, i had my first proper morgan adventure last night!

Me wheel fell off haha. Was an interesting situation, not a clue how it happened at all, but the off side front big nut managed to work itself loose (guessing that the grub screw wasn't fully secured into place) But being they are oposite threaded i cant understand how it managed to work itself off, i'd even checked it the day before and it was tight!

So picture the scene, dual carriageway style road (its a 40 limit as its part residential) outside lane, heres me stuck with a half on wheel. horrible drizzle, 1 am and was there til the back of 3 after a nic police officer stopped and organised roadside recovery for me.

So the damage done . . . Well the six metal studs that lock into the disk were all askew, but thanks to a big hammer and an angle grinder to tidy up the roughed edges got them all lined up with the disk again. The actual wheel itself on the inside where it knocked against the calliper has cracked itself, so the wheel is away being welded at the moment untill i can get a replacement which Russell is sourcing for me at the moment

Just glad that the wheel didn't fully come off the car but i think it caused a wee bit of damage to the wing as it doesn't seem to sit as flush with the running board but will properly look into that once im back up and running!

Cars eh? Who'd have em! haha

James, that is quite an adventure! Too much action for one evening - you need to pace yourself.

Yeah im all good and no crash or anything and a few nice people stopped to give me a hand which was really good!

The nice expense of 170 quid to get my car back to my house! Was only like 4 miles if that!

Wheel is away getting welded so will hopefully get it back tomorrow

When the nice boys in blue arrange recovery you pay a statutory charge. If you had contacted the Recovery Contractor yourself the price would probably have been considerably lower.

Glad to hear the event was no more serious.

On each of my centre lock wheels I put a couple of small marks with an indelible pen once the nuts are torqued up. Then before I take the car out I just do a quick visual to make sure marks are still lined up.

I also check bonnet catches are done up............ once I didn't!!!

That is a bit of a worry - Glad you and the car are ok.

I have been straight out to the garage looking for the grub screw. Don't seem to have any on the 4/4.

When young and penniless I had a Berkeley three wheeler with the most ridiculous enclosed domed nut holding on each of the front hubs onto the FW drive shaft splines. They required a fist full of shims and trial tightenings to line up a 1/8 split pin with 1/8 holes in nut and shaft. Out of sheer frustration I put a thinner pin through on one occasion just to get done and out for a drive.

With my 4 year old brother at my side, fortunately going up hill at 30 in a quiet country lane the wheel and hub (offside) detached itself last to be seen flying over a 6ft high hedge. The car ground to a halt welding the bottom king pin nut on for ever.

There was no one about, no phones nearby, so with brother in hand I walked 3/4 mile back down the road where fortunately I found the nut washers and shims in close proximity to each other (no slit pin).

Next I had to find a gate to get into the field and recover the wheel. One hour later with on board toolkit, spare shims and split pins I managed to get the wheel back on and drive us home again with no one the wiser (little brother was too young to tell on me).

Any Berkeley past owner will no what I mean because the hubs were a nightmare to keep on and lethal in a highly inflammable fiberglass car.
