Good afternoon everyone,

Finally took the Aero out for a drive today, it was awesome but a few problems arose I was hoping to get some help with..

1. After about 30 minutes of driving when she got up to temperature all idle was lost, everytime you dip the clutch she stalled..which was a nightmare in traffic and when parking. Since this has happened it's now doing it from cold..

2. There is a squeak from the osr when going around low speed left handers, possibly a bearing dry?

3. The power steering pump sounds very rattly when doing low speed manoeuvres, my drive is very tight so it's especially noticeable.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated, I'm not to worried about 2/3 if they are normal, but the idle is rather disappointing!

Nick the stalling issues could be the MAF sensor I seen to recall Viper having similar problems. Has the car been used much before you bought it?

Not sure on you're second problem but the steering pumps are noisy of full lock, do you know if the pump has been changed from the original. I wouldn't however have describe it as a rattle.

It hasn't been used much the past few years, it felt like it could be an idle valve initially but it's running rich as I can smell fuel on full throttle so it could well be the maf..

The steering pump sounded quite grindy when applying lock, I also noted a loud intermittent squeak coming from the same area at intervals when idling. As far as I know it's original.

Almost certainly the MAF

I'm on my second in 4 yrs. Idle dies....PITA

Steering grinding....not so sure though early cars had to be modded where the track rod from the rack comes through the inner wing......the hole in the wing not big enough and sometimes clumps but usually on suspenders compression

Pumps were an issue though and mostly they can feel dead initially, I'm pretty sure mine makes noises but so use to it I'm not sure if it does or not

Sorry to hear you are having a couple of teething issues hopefully Richard will sort these pdq.

For future reference the steering pump I believe to be BMW mini a Danish friend of mine recently replaced his.
The Morgan spares route was a non starter so he stripped it out and took it to the BMW agent, no problem.

2. rubber bushes could probably do with some silicone lube

1. Additionally ensure your airfilter isn't choked with dirt/debris

Richard Thorne serviced it before delivery, so I would assume the air filter is ok.
Due to the distance do you think it's unreasonable of me to want to take it to my local dealer Allon White (5mins away) and Richard Thorne to liaise with them?

Unless of course they collect and deliver it..but seems a faff.

Have to admit I am quite disappointed as I had to cut my first drive short.

He can only say no and who knows it might suit him - I don't know if reciprocal arrangements like this exist in Morgan world.

S1 Aeros are particularly noisy when cold and manoeuvring. This is in part because the rack, I believe, is solid mounted with no bushes! Mine actually frightens people when cold and manoeuvred!

Obviously not easy to diagnose from your description but the noise may be "normal". Equally if you still have the original hydraulic pump it could be on it's way out, though don't know the noise it makes when it is close to failure. It is possible to test the pump for play by reaching down to the pulley driven from the steering pump gears. If you have more than 1/2 inch of circumferential play then failure is not far off.

Diagnosis on stalling issue sounds good. Good also be crankshaft sensor. I've had both fail on my car.

So disappointing yes I can imagine, but nothing really to worry about especially given that you bought car from a good reputable dealer.

I can understand your disappointment Nick but as said, not bad and MAF can go at any time

I'm sure your supplying dealer would much rather you take it locally and have a deal on labour
