I think I'm just not going to shut my doors

Can I ask what you got with the car in terms of jack/tyre goo?
Mine appears to be missing the sensor in the boot, and I wasn't sure what was supposed to be in there - some cheap tyre goo is in mine!

Sure, a jack, wheel nut socket & bar, tyre goo no sensor either mind you I took the fuse out so its no issue.

What may not have been mentioned is that it is bad practice to lean or put weight on the doors as well. Also if you Aero door makes a loud knock like noise on full opening (like it was clicking into detent point) then look at the hinge and stay area as this can elongate and result in failure.

Reading through this thread...based on my 10,000 mile and 18 month experience with the Aero based Plus 8, which is, according to MMC, a Supersport with a different body....

Front suspension noise...yes, they all do that sir! In this case it is normal when the car is cold as the joints are all metal on metal. There is some adjustment possibility, Tarka was quieter after the service last year, but it seems that 6 months later the noise is the same. Once hot the noise disappears.

Steering pump noise..on full lock (which isn't much of a lock) the pump bypass valve squeals. This used to be common on power steering systems, 20 years ago. As long as the fluid level is OK then there is no problem.

Petrol Smell...shouldn't happen.

Idling...cold steady at 800 rpm, drops to 500 rpm as soon as it has started to warm up. With A/C on it idles at 800 hot or cold.

Warning light failure... it seems the circuit board that holds the row of warning light can fail through damp entry...and subsequent corrosion.

Door opening....well doesn't apply to the Plus 8....bog standard trad doors and side screens...MMC seem to have making them down to a fine art.

Yes, you are correct. The S1s had a hydraulic pump and the driven gears for this could develop play even at low mileage. I explained how to check for this play in an earlier post. My car at 66,500km still has the hydraulic pump and there is little play.

When replaced dealers installed electric pumps and these were then installed on all Aeros as standard at some point. Maybe S3?

IIRC cars new Aeros are now once again fitted with a hydraulic pump but don't quote me on this.

I have wressled with possible future issues with the S1 during ownership of 4 years now, the power steering you mention, my car like Philip's has an original system and at 36K mileage is still going strong. Other areas of concern had been the drive train shunt, I hardly notice this at all now as I use 2nd gear for most pull aways, with so much torgue it is all you need. The final main concern was the start "clicking", In colder damp weather the car would not always start first time. I had batteries changed and starter motor to eliminate this although over time it would come back. The solution I have now found is storing the car in a moisture free garage, I now use a Cair O port, bubble, and so far this winter starts on the button. So after 4 years I have stopped worrying, just look forward to that V8 barking into life every week.

Unfortunately I tried the Air Con for the first time today and thats not working either - so I've added it to the growing list. Not having much luck so far haha
