Thanks for the feedback all, it is most appreciated! Unfortunately I tried the Air Con for the first time today and thats not working either - so I've added it to the growing list. Not having much luck so far haha With apologies if you already know this, but did you have the fan speed above minimum before you pressed the air con button? It's not like a modern tin-top where the air conditioning button brings the fan on, the fan must be started first or the air conditioning won't come on. Welcome to Aero ownership, I promise it is all worth it once you have it working the way you want.

Not sure if this will reassure / help.Have had my S1 for three years now. Bought from Williams and appeared in excellent condition (which it was). Since then, MAF needed replacement very soon after purchase but symptoms a bit different. ECU went into limp home mode if I hit 5,000 rpm, switched ignition off, then on again and all was well. Anyway new MAF has sorted that. Then the dreaded click on trying to start, combination of corrosion on the earth terminal located behind the washer bottle and need for a new battery, apparently the battery that came with the car was for a golf buggy!!!. Since then I keep the new battery on a trickle charger and it has been good for the last three years. Last year, Heater control valve seized through lack of use in the winter (replaced) and Air Con stopped working but this was a simple re-gas job. So all in all, pretty good experience and have covered more miles in my three years of ownership than the previous 11 years of the previous owners. Stick with it, once you have these niggles sorted you have an incredible car. My previous cars were Aston V8 Vantage, beautiful car to look at and drive but you need a cheque book with several zero's added to the end of each cheque to run it. And prior to that 911 - the ultimate example of auto engineering and drivability but of course lacking something in the soul department. (Also had a trad Plus 8 for ten years, lovely car provided you didn't push it on bumpy roads as in my opinion it then became terrifying.) Aero's fill a gap very very few other cars can fill, at least in my opinion.

My cure for all Aero 8 based cars is to run then for at least ONE full tank of fuel a month (preferably TWO), every month and in doing so make sure the engine is pushed to at least 5000 rpm at least twice. This medicine also makes the driver VERY happy! So far, in 33 months and 25,000 miles there have been no mechanical faults. Let's not talk about corroded electronics in the dash display, but then in the first 15 months it was first the MMC development car for the paddle-shift levers and then a demonstrator. So it got damp a few times, I suspect and wasn't kept in a warm, dry garage.

Hi Nick, Your worries pale into significance when you here my story! In my S1 yeaterday when I was buzzing along the road between Burford and Stow at a steady 50 mph when all of a sudden there was a bit of a "lurch" to the LHS and I was overtaken by my rear wheel !!! By luck/fate I managed to "glide" into a layby about 300m along the road. Getting out to first of all stop the shaking in my legs, I looked at the rear wing and luckily it was only slightly buckled and the stub axle saved from serious damage due to the rear disc and the new side exit silencer taking all the weight. The wheel was in a ditch over 100m in front of me but the issue was -where was the nut (other than the one driving the car!) So, I walked back along the road and luckily found it in a ditch half a mile away !! The RAC sent a recovery truckand we managed to jack the car up with an assortment of wooden blocks and the wheel went on and the thread was ok!The grub screw was still in the nut and was about 6mm through onto the axle slot. It had new tyres recently and I witnessed them tightening the nut up and tightening the grub screw. Now the real puzzle - the same thing happened a year ago and on the same corner - that time it was a new stub axle. So, what is happening? I did notice on the nut, that the "mating" surface was very small - judging by the amount of scoring on the surface. Could this be the issue ie the nut is just not gripping the wheel sufficiently?? Sorry for the long ramble but I am seriously thinking about "moving on" as it really could have been a very serious accident T Nick - just check your nuts!!

Some interesting points there and I agree it will definitely be worth it, I so nearly bought a V8 Vantage but I will be honest I preferred the look of the Aero, and the more old school feel, sound, smell and sense of occasion it brings! Ironically a few Aston/Morgan owners have said that because the Aston's are more reliable they actually cost a similar amount to run, as the Morgan will cost less to service but more will go wrong with it mechanically. I will report back in a year as to whether thats true!
