Usually these days stripes like that on motorcycle tanks are adhesive strips which are then overpainted with the clear top coat. It ensures that they last a long time. Did not notice it while I was at the show but I have to say I don't like the use of the JAP logo. It is not a JAP engine and, to me, pretending it is is not correct. Just my opinion.

problem with decals is that paint would last ages longer. You will end up having to pull the decals after some years in the sun and getting custom ones to match down the road would be pricey.
Even if they are painted on striping, you could change them down the road as well, but if I were you and liked the look. I would pay out now to get a nice pin-striping done than have to deal with the car as the decals age.

You can change colors of pin stripes once you don't like them anymore.

I have placed an awful lot of lines on my steam engines using brushes, pin striping tapes (for painting), Beugler pin striping wheels and gold leaf: I much prefer these techniques to tape with a clear coat over the top. Now the environment of a steam engine is far more harsh than the pampering that cars get, so maybe tape and varnish could last well enough. But, as they say in my trade* 'no pain - no gain'.

Yep, so far the only reaction I have gotten about them is "oh my god, that is SO racist"

The look of the whole 'Heritage' option is not correct. The painted on 'Brass', the schizophrenic use of mixed chrome trim, the tape stripes, the phony 'JAP' logo....MMC: Why, Why, Why?
A far more authentic "Heritage" version would have deleted the mirror finish chrome and replaced it with brushed aluminium to give it a more proper nickel appearance, a wood rimmed wheel, and 2 or 3 eared spinners. Otherwise, the 'Brass' version just offends every fibre of my being that respects both tradition and good taste.
As an aside, anyone else wonder why the "Bonnet" doesn't extend out to the covered frame rails? It's an awkward junction btwn round and flat.
