Usually these days stripes like that on motorcycle tanks are adhesive strips which are then overpainted with the clear top coat. It ensures that they last a long time.

Did not notice it while I was at the show but I have to say I don't like the use of the JAP logo. It is not a JAP engine and, to me, pretending it is is not correct.
