I need to replace my ancient, clapped out trolley jack.

In the past I think many have recommended the lightweight aluminium types. It will only be used for the Morgan so I imagine a 1.5 ton capacity should be sufficient, or is it sensible to go for a higher figure? Weight of the jack itself is not that important as it is unlikely to move outside the garage.

Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

I use this trolley jack!
The link is only an Example how it looks:

A little bit heavy but wider at the front wheels than the Alu trolley jacks I have seen.

This trolley jack seems to be much better than some hobby stuff I have seen before.

I am thinking of buying also the Cross Beam adaptor they offer.

This kind of axle stand is also very usefull. I bought them from an other manufacturer.
Regards Bernd

I have had a 3 ton unit for over 20 years. Looked after it should last forever. I always think that some amount of excess capacity means that the unit will last longer, at very little extra cost?
Buy what you can afford.

I found I needed a low entry jack for the Morgn as neither of my existing jacks would fit under it.

Make sure you know the hight of the chassis and if you pick one the jack will slide under easy .

I purchased a Draper Expert 31481 low profile trolley jack from Amazon on a deal last year which has proven excellent.

I bought one of the low entry ,aluminium jacks when they first appeared on the scene (it was the only one I could get under the Lotus laugh ).It has been fine for me but there seem to be lots of cheap Chinese copies around which give 'problems' after a while.

Needless to say, a set of decent axle stands is an essential accompaniment.....

If I was buying now , I think I would go for the Costco ,low entry aluminium jack which gets good reviews and seems to be very well made.

Also, for Aero chassis cars, make very sure that the jack is long enough...the front jacking points are quite away under the car and my present cheap "Halfrauds" one isn't long enough. So the bit where the handle fits is under the car when it is supposed to be clear of the car.

This one is longer by around 100mm to 200mm and lower than the other jacks. Like all things there are drawbacks in that it is 42kg.

I have one and it is not safe to lift it into the boot of a car with one person due to its weight and size.

The comments about the jacks capacity do not come into it as you are at most lifting one end or one side of the car and even a 4WD will not be too heavy for any of these jacks.
