I reckon a nice stainless T pull handle would be better than the place handle affair.

Once repaired ,if you press the hood down with your free hand, prior to operating the release lever, you will find that the load required on the lever is far less. Yes! we were also shown that technique when we collected our car at the factory.

OK, so yes, i had forgotten the pushing down technique. i'll use this going forward.
I've take off the handle and ordered a new one from my local Bedfordshire dealer for £15+VAT and will fit that when it arrives.
I've already done the screw loosening thing RoadsterBoy but thanks anyway :-)
