Can anyone tell me what gearbox and diff oils the Aero S1 takes? Want to replace mine and just make sure everything is fresh, going to do engine at the same time i think.

Any hints/tips for best way of doing these, i've not actually looked for any draining plugs or inlet plugs for oil in gearbox and diff yet so any pics or advice would be appreciated

if they are BMW items, you should have a metallic tab on the diff and a label too on the box. Usually BMW boxes use oil for automatic gearbox (even the manual one, go figure) and for the rear if you have LSD fitted make sure you have the specific oil for these.
Try having a look at castrol website, they are the recommanded oil supplier for BMW.

Cheers Ludo, will maybe call factory and get a list of recomended oils as well, its the custom Getrag gearbox on the aero S1, just so happens the same one on the twin turbo supra (who'd figure)

some room for improvment the, can take much more torq I would guess!
how are you progressing on your S1 tuning? did you have a look at vacmotorsport, some good suff there...

If it's of any help owners handbook says gearbox is permanently sealed whilst for rear axle use a 80W-140 or 75W-140 synthetic of the highest grade. At last service I put in Castrol SAF XJ75-140, that you can buy from a BMW dealer.

With regard to the sealed gearbox, I haven't decided what to make of this yet. It's true that on many cars these days there is no interval quoted for changing gearbox oil. Can't say I'm comfortable with this but since my S1 has only done 45k km I'm not worried for time being. Views?

Nothing gone forward on the tuning side as of yet, theres some other issues to sort out first. My door handle cable snapped yesterday, was a bit of an arse.

i did have a look but holy s**t at the prices!

Philippo, thank you, will go and get some and then go and see if i can find the inlet and outlet bolts to change the oil. Not had a look at the Diff yet to see.

for our strong euro, prices are descent

Philippo, on the BMWs they also say that the gearbox oil is a lifelong one. Changed it on my Z3 coupe, gearchange are way smoother now so personnaly I am back to the good old two year change for gearbox and diff. As long as you put the right fluid it can only do good and no harm, all that at minimal cost.

Olleyjp, I replaced both my door handle cables with a brake wire from a bicycle. Just ask for the tickest brake cable in a bicycle shop and you'll never have a problem again.

Spud - i had to order new locks as some tube lost the actual door key so the car couldn't be locked. Helpful . . .
The new locks come with cables and will be here tomorrow so all is well

As for oils, i got the 75-140 from BMW and then got some Mobil 0w-40 fully synth (recommended by BMW) for the engine.
Boy the woman wasn't happy with me! haha. Asked for the recomended oil for the 4.4 V8 engine thats in the 645 BMW. Whats the reg of the car in response. Its not a BMW, my car just has the engine, then she had a rant about it. told her to stick it and that i would just find the engine oil cheaper else where. Silly bint! :p

I had the same blank look at the Ford Dealer when I went on a fact finder about the V6. Although the chap behind the counter knew loads once we got over the "what's the reg number - it's not a Ford " sketch......
Next time I'll try the Jag dealer.

I wouldn't want to leave gearbox oil in 'forever'. Just remember to make sure you can loosen the level/filler plug before you take the drain plug out. If there isn't one, then there's not much you can do. Without spending loads of time..........
