It's always better to replace components before they fail, and five years isn't bad going for a battery. If you have the funds, then why not?
On the other hand, if it's working well then it would probably happily go on for another couple of years.
But now that you've thought of it, wouldn't it be a complete PITA if you didn't replace it and it let you down?
If it were me I'd stick a new one in and keep the old one as a spare for the electric fence on the chicken run.

I wouln't change the battery in a petrol after 5 years. Normally they will last much longer. My father had an Audi where he changed the battery after 17 years. Diesel cars need new battery after a shorter period. If a Diesel battery is older than 8 years it was very well serviced. I changed mine after 5 years. My Morgan battery was 8 years when I had to change because of a failure inside.

Yes I agree. I don't like summoning the evil battery Genie but the battery in MrsW's Polo is now twelve years old. It doesn't do many long trips and is rarely charged. That's really done it now. In my old Golf it got to twelve years. Both were diesels.

The battery in my 4/4 seems to last in the order of 9-11 years, I have just put in my 4th battery since 1980. However my M3W battery did not make 3 years both are on Ctek chargers when not in use.

Batteries are much better than they were, maybe alternators have improved too?
If buying a battery tester buy a battery load tester, it's under load that they show their weak points

I'm on my third battery in 34 years in my 1982 red Plus 8. I tend to charge it monthly if the car hasn't been used.

Get it tested or buy a battery tester to check all cells are working , simple ! If you have one or more failed cells, you have a failed battery and you'd probably not be able to start the engine. If the battery works, leave it, but be mindful modern batteries tend to fail big time, so at the first hint of trouble, I'd replace it.
