Firstly - let me declare an interest - I live near Loughborough and count Taylors Bell Foundry as one of the special things in our area.
It was sad that the contract for the Olympic bell cast specially for the London Olympics was awarded to the Whitechapel foundry who, lacking the capacity to cast a bell of that size, then subcontracted the work to a non-UK foundry. Taylors still have the capacity to cast bells of that size - in fact the mound for Great Paul still exists.

Certainly Taylor's is a great engineering place to visit Graham and I went late last year and had a 3 hour totally entertaining visit. You are taken right back to the atmosphere of the Industrial Revolution with all the sights and smells of the workshops.
The bell wheel moulding is just the same as the Morgan wing moulding.
The stays for the bells are made using ash so lots of common traditional links.
They do all the rope work as well since taking over John Pritchard's work.
You don't have to be a ringer to appreciate the engineering.

Thanks for posting the photo Richard  It was a great tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it. 11 days? Would have taken a bit longer by wagon and horses...

That's behind a 2spd agricultural engine (in the picture). They'd have done it a bit quicker behind a 3spd road locomotive - but they probably just used what they had available locally.
