can all non aero 8 morgans really be discused under the heading 'classic'? Classic to me means manufactured sometime around the late sixties early seventies, in Morgan terms probably triumph engined plus 4s series V 4/4s and moss box plus 8s A more appropriate division as practiced here would be 'traditional' and non.

As an aside I'm a recent rejoin to the Morgan 4 wheeler community and am surprised at the invisibility of classic [my definition] Morgans on this and other websites and in the magazine

Previously we had all of the 'traditional' models divided into the relevant categories; however, the users of this forum asked that they be brought under one heading.

As the site has a very user friendly, and intelligent, search function, information is never difficult to find.

Welcome to the site. smile

Hi Josher.

The common abbreviation for the traditional shape Morgans is, perhaps not surprisingly, trad. This site happens to use the term classic which is also pretty self explanatory I would have thought

You have defined classic in one way, I suspect that if you asked the near 900 members here for other definitions that you would get near 900 different answers. For example your definition would have a Morris Marina as a classic but not a CVH 4/4.

Anyway sounds like you have just acquired a Mog. Tell us more about it

Morgan doesn't fit normal definitions, and classic is just one overused definition which doesn't really convey much value, because we all have different ideas.
I imagine that most owners of older Morgans are not particularly IT literate, and probably not that bothered about forum chat - which is a shame, because a strong contingent of old blokes with beards and real ale would have lots of interesting things to post...........

I would have thought this would have been a far worthier first post. Instead the one above has a strong smell of troll about it.

Josher we get along just fine with the site structure and there are a myriad of interesting people on it ~ all of whom get along very well. What the Mog is called is far less important than the quality of the community we have on this venue.

Josher,
The terms 'vintage' 'post vintage thoroughbred'' Modern classic' etc have always been defined ( perhaps less than successfully) by years or periods of manufacture.
This is an inexact science because, inevitably, what is one man's classic isn't another's and some of the so called 'modern classics' weren't that stunning when new, so how has age made them any better?

Perhaps a better way- and the approach this site takes- is to define a 'classic' in something like the way the Oxford English Dictionary defines it: " Classic: of allowed excellence; of the first class". So, what the heck does it matter when a thing was built- if it's good enough then it's a classic! Case rests

Cheers

Reference the term Classic: quite simply the forum is called that because Morgan differentiate between their lines of cars by dividing them into Classic and Aero variants.

I changed the term from 'Traditional Morgans' to Classic at the same time as MMC made the change.

In the Morgan factory tour this week, one of the company directors showed us a frame from a 1954 Plus 4 which was being manufactured alongside the 4/4 Sports, Aero 8s and Roadsters that were on the production line. The company prides itself in providing parts for models up to 50-years old (and in this case obviously a little older). While that was interesting, I preferred the symbolic quality of all models being produced together and old and new being built in conjunction.

That, for me, is part of the magic of Morgan.

I suspect the username "Josher" is a hint of sorts?

IMHO, This all sounds to me like some of Dave's 'Mrs LIB's Yorkshire talk, if you know what I mean. This is no Josh!

Park a Morgan of any age in amongst a Show of Classics and Vinatge Cars by mistake and stand back! Just watch the numbers surround the Morgan. soapbox

As we used to say as kids. Sticks and Stones will break our bones but NAMES will never hurt me. viking

Just about to lose my side lights, just try and stop me being a 'Classic' somestick
