sound like something a tuner shop could take care of, or swap the ECU with one that isn't locked.

I just posted a response on the "fractured exhaust" thread about heat in the pipes. The front baffle in the muffler section is a solid disc which directs flow thru the liner of the muffler section. The two rear baffles have holes drilled in them. After removing the front baffle with a hole saw, my pipes no longer glow.
As an aside, my wife and I discovered that when you hit tumble weeds during a wind storm, you just push them along if front of the Morgan. You must stop and remove them or the bits touching the exhaust will catch fire!!!

Does anyone know if the exhaust pipes glow red when the engine is used in a motorcycle application? Seems like they probably would, but if not, why not?

I also have to wonder what happens to the pipes in the rain? Seems like heating to red hot and then getting quenched by cold rain would quickly crystallize the metal, hastening the demise of the headers.

Never seen a Harley with glowing pipes.
Maybe they set them up like Harley's though.
I had a Sportster back in 1990, it was utterly gutless so I took it back to the dealer to complain, he said they get better once the exhaust is tuned at the first service.
The Exhaust tune consisted of taking off the silencer, sticking a steel rod in one end and belting it with a hammer to knock out the baffles, the bike ran better but the silencer had a much shortened life. One can only assume that the motors are such a bad design that the only way to get them past noise reg's is to stifle them so much they loose power. Maybe on on the Mog they are even more baffled causing a heat build up?

Headers in the rain is an interesting thought. We spent six hours running in heavy drizzle last Saturday on our return home from our trip. I have been caught in rain three or fours times over the last couple of years and the headers would "seem" to be still be intact although no longer shiney.

I've driven mine once in monsoon type rain, it was like being in a steam train as the water evaporated as soon as it hit the headers. It was actually quite spectacular.

I've been in the rain too many times to remember and the steam effect is pretty good I must say. Best of all is a cold start after overnight rain - there's so much steam (particularly with my now soggy wrapped headers) that people sometimes stop to offer help with what they assume to be some kind of breakdown!

And Uther, yes, the Mog exhausts are stuffed up horrifically, hence the glow. Big singles (or in our case a pair of them that just happen to be joined) are notoriously difficult to silence effectively whist keeping power, hence the rash of noisy Hogs, Ducati's, supermoto's etc etc. Unlike multi's with conjoined pipe-work, big singles go best on the most free flowing setup, which is why some Harleys have those obnoxious drag pipes which make your ears bleed if the rider is anything less than sympathetic around others. Multi's like an element of back-pressure and scavenging - Big V's dont

I am happy with the compromise of G56 pipes, which flow well yet are quiet when required, although they are naturally much bigger than stock.

At Oulton on Saturday after I span off in the torrential rain , the Marshal who ran up to me said "has you radiator gone mate?"
there was so much vapour coming off the front end. After explaining it was air cooled and as I pulled away to get back on the track I could hear "Toot Toot".

I was told yesterday by Marcassus Sport that you cannot have the new factory firmware flashed onto the ECU unless you have a cooling fan fitted, which I don't. To try and reduce the pinking. I have therefore ordered 3 x 500ml bottles of Millers CVL Turbo octane booster as an experiment.

When I was running a Ralt RT40 F2 car in the European Hill Climb with a very high compression Hart engine, I used to order 130/145 octane "Purple" Avgas in 205L drums from Sweden and then add Toluene, Aniline and Furfuran to that but that is not a cheap fuel. 16 years ago it was working out at around £2.50 per litre. You were supposed to run pump fuel from 1994 onwards but none of the F2 cars with either BMW M10/12 or Hart engines were doing that. Nobody ever asked me for a fuel sample in 10 years but when I stopped in 2000, apparently the authorities were muttering about getting stricter.

A couple of years back i was sent the file to alleviate the pinking. i updated the ECU myself using the S&S Protune software.

Whilst the ECU is "locked" it will/did accept Morgan generated box files.

My car is an early 2012 one and does not have the urban cooling kit (yet!)

I still have the file on my laptop somewheres if you are interested
