A year ago as I set off from Cumbria for a Morgan holiday in the Loire Valley the speedo/mileometer went faulty only showing about 10% of the speed or miles traveled. On my return the speedo was replaced and all was well until two weeks ago in Spain. Halfway through the trip on turning the engine off the rev counter stuck at 2,000 revs. This was a first although it does occassionally stick at 1,000 revs. The following day when I turned on the ignition the rev counter dropped back to zero and all the miles were cleared from the mileometer and trip! Since then it's behaved normally. Any ideas what might have caused this? I now keep a record of actual miles run in the service guide as the actual recorded miles are a nonsense. On the same trip the easy-up hood release handle broke - for a second time. This time the pivot sheared at the bottom. I wish someone would make an aluminium version.

I used to have to spend a couple of hours tweaking and adjusting and machining the hood release pins on the easy up hoods at PDI
If the hood release handle is breaking then the hood needs adjusting properly rather than a stronger handle...

Simon, That is a very interesting observation, what do you mean by adjusting properly? Is it that the rear catches are too tight or what?

Simon, That is a very interesting observation, what do you mean by adjusting properly? Is it that the rear catches are too tight or what? It's any mixture of things... Too tight, bent wrong, cable not lubricated, Morgan tolerances...(generally about a thumbs width, but no one is sure whose thumb...😜) Sometimes the pin itself needs machining differently Consider it "blue printing" as you would do to maximise output from an otherwise standard engine... When I first had a car with an MMC easy up hood Phil at AWSC advised never ever trying to release the rear (even just for behind the seat access) without first taking the tension off the front header rail by loosening the two A post clamps.
Try it, it makes a big difference to the load required to operate the rear hoop release lever.

Easy up hood:
Tips from 11 years of experience.
1 Always press down on the rear of the hood frame, before trying to pull the release lever.
2 When erecting the hood, I use the following procedure. a. Release the hood frame lever as above. b. Erect hood carefully locating the front rail with the windscreen, to avoid kinking the rubber frame seal. c. Locate front hook latches, but do not fully close. d. With pressure of both hands, latch the rear frame (do not be tempted to slam shut) e. Fully secure front latches.

Thanks Budster & Spanner Juggler for the hood tips. Will use them in the future. When the hood release handle failed in Spain I was reduced to using just the front catches - very carefully - to lower the hood. Rather like an MX5?

My milometer works but the wiper fuse got blown on a regular base. Not a big problem any more as I found the reason is the windscreen spray pump (disconnected now ). And the heater fan switch desintegrated. I am traveling France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and not home yet but I hope not to experience too many more problems. Just another 1000km to go and weather forecast indicates rain, thunderstorm or heavy rain...

Where do the wiper blades park? If they go over the rubber windscreen seal the fuse will blow. I found with one car they travelled past the normal park position in heavy rain & blew the fuse.
