Driving down through the roadworks on the M5 this morning on the way to the factory I saw an amazingly aggressive bit of driving. I was in the inside late doing 50, a guy in a BMW in the middle lane just in front of me, doing the same. A truck then comes up behind him, a foot behind his back end and then after a few minutes, pulls into the outside lane, overtakes him and then cuts back abruptly when halfway past him, forcing him to brake heavily and swerve in front of me.   Very close to what could have ended up a very nasty accident!

Now you know how the M5 gets blocked for hours even though the limit through roadworks is only 50 mph. A pity you didn't have a dashcam going.

Jays if you were in a SPECS camera controlled zone they work on ANPR and might be able to interrogate the system and catch the trucker.
He sounds like he needs some education before he kills someone.

For similar reasons even here in sleepy Devon I've taken to driving with a dash cam permanently on. I personally try and be as courteous and considerate to othe drivers as I can so that frustration on their part does not get the better of them. Unfortunately our roads especially around denser populations are very busy compared with 20 or more years ago and many more have to use cars to get to around for work. Unfortunately the pressure and stress of modern life spills over into using cars. The person who's late for a meeting, bad day at work, shouted at by boss, problems at home, there are loads more, add to this being in a vehicle when you don't want to be or need To be doing something else and for some it can escalate out of control into anger and aggressiveness. Mix this with poor driving by some other road users and can result in dangerous situations with people behaving irrationally. Because this I find that nowadays the only safe approach to driving on the highway is defensively, being completely aware of what is happening several cars ahead and behind and being prepared to take evasive action. If I get tailgaters I just let them pass, and I try and keep back from cars in front, and I am always waiting for another road user to do something I don't expect.

Speeding Using the outside lane For what it is worth I'm informed, by a neighbor who is a trucker for DHL that the belief among the HGV 1 Driver Community is that average speed cameras are set at 57mph, because trucks are governed to 56 mph and driving them at 50mph is a real pain. I wonder if it is really so. I set the cruise control at 53. So far, so good...!

A friend of mine got done last year for doing 57mph in a 50 limit roadworks area of the M5......so I won't risk the assumption!
He was mighty pissed off....it was 2am and no other traffic or indeed workforce there.
Probably a third offence Peter...Dangerous Driving. The guy was lucky not to get caught, police often lurk on the J5 bridge and he was making the manoeuvre as we approached.

On the subject of dash cams which sounds like a good idea, is is feasible easily to swap such a camera from one car to another? Reason for asking is that they appear to have the need for a power supply cable and I'm not sure how easily the cam can be connected/reconnected.

There is a lot of aggressive driving around overwhelmingly by young people. But then I guess that as a testosterone fuelled 18 year old, I was probably fairly aggressive on the road. Add into the equation commercial drivers under time/bonus pressure and white vans which have car like performance and speed.
That said by far the worse time is the weekend and I can only put that down to the kiddies who have saved up petrol money to chow off the Clio to their mates at the weekend.
