Episode 1 was dire.
Episode 2 was a bit more watchable.
Episode 3?

I'm working on "3 strikes and you are out". If it isn't an improvement then it is TGT on Amazon...

Three attempts to watch episode 2 and I cannot make it to the end. This is the first time having video-on-demand is becoming a curse. I feel like I need to watch it all the way through to give it a chance but keep getting annoyed with the futility of it.

May have to watch the baboon on Prime and see if he gets to look smug. They have the benefit of being an existing team and having a new host with (I would guess knowing Amazon) a relatively open remit.

I have nearly every episode of Top Gear recorded on my Sky Planner for rainy day viewing, I've never deleted an episode...until the 'new' TG came on air!

The only good bit was Jenson, Chris Evans is really annoying..

My main grump was there continued reference in the South African segment to them being off-road. They weren't off-road at all, they were on a "non-city" road - all of which can be tackled in a hire car, ideally at speed.

Had great fun a couple of years ago in KwaZulu-Natal on some of the non-city stuff. Heading back to civilization from Rourke's drift, up a steep hill with sump killing stones required the driver to keep the foot and the hands praying!

One back road almost caught me out as a rise and crest hid a corner - resulting in turn-in, lift off, oversteer, catch, full throttle.

Great drives

My daughter lives in Johannesburg. She bought a bakkie (South African for what in Australia would be called a ute) just so she could safely negotiate the rough roads. She says that when a bit gets too bad people just drive around it thereby creating rough side-tracks.

Pretty much - yes. A bakkie can also be used as a mini-bus, family car, transit van, etc etc

I really enjoyed my visits to the country - we'll be going back at some point.

I'm firmly with dodgyken here. The Memsahib and I did 6000 miles in S.Africa with many miles on the sort of "off road" roads that the TG mob used and all in a Mazda 323 hire car.
What a load of tripe, but I expect I will need to watch episode 3 unless a good drama the like of "Night Manager" comes on another channel.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

I thought it was better than the first episode, so maybe it will improve. I'll give it a chance.

Best Regards
