Being tall and having the pedals set back on rear fixings, I find the left heel needs something to grip on, as I don't want my foot resting on the clutch. This seems petty but actually it is quite tiring for the foot. Has anyone a genius fix before I start fettling down there?

You may need to fettel this yourself. Heavy gauge ally suitable shaped should do.

I use grip tape under my heels to stop my feet slipping when driving, this kind of stuff

Also have it on the pedal surfaces.

Its been in two years now and still wearing well. If it fades I can always rip it out.

I use it under where both heels go , and further back on the left clutch foot side as a 'rest'. Also as I dont run with the carpets in , I have strips where the passenger steps in to avoid spills.

I pivot the left foot to the left on the heel when on the open road. Is that sufficient to avoid clutch touch?

Do you have 4 x 2 under the front seats to raise your knees. This in effect gives you an extra couple of holes on the pedals.
Also makes for a more comfortable drive.

Two things: One already mentioned is sticking a 2x4 under the front of the seat to raise that up and the other fix is to get a 25mm steering wheel extension. You'll be able to raise your knees higher and avoid cramping up.


What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

I too have been thinking about a dead pedal. Now granted the 10 miles and I am driven in a Morgan 3 Wheeler was in somebody else's car with the pedal box adjusted for them, but I did find it a little uncomfortable having to constantly be holding up clutch foot with no place to rest it. Once I get the car I'm going to see if there is a way that I can fabricate anything, even a small metal lip to rest the edge of my foot on so I can relax the muscles in my clutch leg. I have a dead pedal in my Miata, and I find myself using it quite a bit.

I quickly got used to the lack of a dead pedal. With switching to the thinner (still 14" diameter) Moto-Lita steering wheel, my left knee actually comes up past the wheel now and I can bend my leg quite comfortably. I just lucked out on that one...my personal ergonomics...wouldn't expect that result for anybody unless they had my exact dimensions! Before that I just rested my toe against the bottom of the pedal assembly.

I have done half a dozen 6 to 8 hour drives in nearly 3 years. I either pull my leg up and rest my knee against the side panel or else I rest my toes against the clutch pedal mechanism near the bottom so I am not pressing it at all.

I'm not sure what the arrangement is on the 3 wheelers, but on the 4 wheelers you can set the adjustment on the clutch to give a bit of slack and then the force of the clutch pedal return spring enables you to rest your foot on the pedal without taking up any of the slack and engaging the clutch. That's what I've been doing for the last 60,000 miles and I haven't worn a clutch out yet....
