More EU brilliance we might avoid if we left...... Thought this would make you laugh. I've been doing some digging to check what we can do with some data we collected when we made a live-stream broadcast of an awards event on Friday, through an American software company. Their Ts and Cs state that they comply with the EU Data Protection Directive, including its Safe Harbour Principles. When I looked these up, according to Wiki, they were overturned in October last year by the European Court of Justice. "What has replaced them?" I hear your cry....Well, the EU-US Privacy Shield of course. The thing is, that hasn't been signed off yet cos the committee are still wrangling over the terms. So unless I have missed something (entirely possible), it looks as if us EU'ers have no protection whatsoever in respect to use of our data by American firms........ .

Nick I think if you look a bit further you will find that it is the EU, or more correctly a number of EU countries, who are now fighting hard to win this battle for data protection. In the past a deal was done, with the backing of the UK, which a number of organisations in Germany, Austria and some other countries are now trying hard to get undone. Germany has been one of the most outspoken countries against US companies exploiting personal data. The EU sometimes does things that the UK wants and still ends up getting bad press for it. Anyway here's a link which can help with more info on what's going on.. http://europe-v-facebook.org/EN/en.html

Mike, If you can't see that a leap into the dark, which is what the leave campaign is, is very risky then all the rhetoric about sovereignty and democracy is meaningless as you don't actually know what democracy you will have - it will depend on what deals your elected representatives - who, incidentally will follow a whip in parliament- great democracy!!! As they may well have to accept part of the EU rules in order to access the single market. The leave "leap" on the economy is also very dangerous as you have no idea what will result after an exit.
If the UK population think that the rest of the world will bow down and do their bidding then they are living in the past - the UK no longer has an empire - just all the immigrants from it!! And no longer "rules the waves"
I hope sense prevails even though if it doesn't the fall in sterling may make a new Morgan attractive!!!!!
Best of luck!!

And the EU's own auditers have refused to sign off the books for the last two decades.
"According to the annual report of the European Court of Auditors, £5.5 billion of the EU budget last year was misspent because of controls on spending that were deemed to be only “partially effective” by experts. The audit, published this morning, found that £109 billion out of a total of £117 billion spent by the EU in 2013 was "affected by material error”. It means that the Brussels accounts have not been given the all clear for 19 years running.

Politicians quickly forget that they represent the will of the people, and assume the role of masters. Democracy is the least worse option for most countries, although some do seem better controlled with dictators!
At the moment, the will of the people seems to be in favour of leaving the EU. The rhetoric from the Remain brigade is really pushing opinion the other way.

Perhaps if the new arrangements had been put in place before the old ones were overruled......?
