Toothpaste or Brasso (rougher)
You are only cutting the lacquered finish so anything fairly mild ought to do it. If in doubt try it on the inside of the glove box first!
On my MG I used a really fine wire wool which matted the finish which I then polished with metal polish.

Living in Essex I don't have to worry about sun lotion, we hardly ever see the sun which is why there are so many tanning salons and orange women here
