I'm sure the TGT team are quietly smiling.

The bit that really grates with me is the way that Evans in middle age at 50 years old tries to dress like a pubescent 11 yearvold

That's because he has the mentality of a pubescent 11 year old innocent

I think the main problem is that Top Gear evolved into what it was over many years and its format was totally suited to the presenters (which is unsurprising given that they were the ones responsible for developing the style and content etc over the years). For whatever reason (franchise format, legalities?) the new team are having to crack on with the existing format and have hardly any scope to be themselves or to inject originality. It was a very hard act to follow anyway, but just trying to reproduce the 'whole' with new people in the chair is a recipe for comparison and disaster. They need to either scrap the programme or change the format....and then start anew with those most suited to the task. Top Gear was Clarkson, May and Hammond (in order of height) and it is difficult to see how anyone else can follow when hidebound by the existing format.

Agreed. There's little wrong with the new Top Gear except the old one sort of metamorphosed around the terrible three and they developed a chemistry and it became what it became - the most successful motoring program ever. The new team have a near impossible task. Let's hope the producers cut them some slack and they all go out, drink too much, behave badly but not too badly, come up with some outrageous ideas and then give us some great TV moments which will involve human frailty and vulnerabilities. It ain't real yet but the potential is there.
