I've always said the +8 was a licence wrecker.

Had to happen - just received a speeding ticket, my first in many years and my first in a Morgan.

36 in a 30. Ooops.

You should be able to take the speed awareness course and avoid the points.

Been there, done that! Caught for 35 in 30, didn't even realise it until I got the letter in the post and can't even place where it was. It's a much better option than a fine and points and I'm certainly much more vigilant now, although I used to believe I was still driving considerately with regard to current road conditions.

Be aware that insurance companies now require you to make them aware of these courses as well as actual speeding offences in most cases.

The new 20 limits are a devil for being totally aware of your speed. It is actually very difficult to stay below 20mph unless you focus in a modern car. It almost feels like you should be going faster to let traffic flow !

Police told me not to tell insurance company, that they had no right to know. They were very fierce about it.........

I did an awareness course just after the 20 limits came in for 23mph, slowing down from 30 as I entered the zone but obviously too late.As an early "victim" we later had a survey to fill in re views on the process. I was complimentary as then they would be keeping them. Better than points.
Re telling insurers....we were also told that we needn't reveal attendance. The records of speeding would be wiped clean but only attendance kept for future eligibility resaons. At the time Admiral were the main/only ones acting on the courses and asking for attendance. Data Protection was cited as preventing insurers from simply asking/getting the details.

Most companies don't ask. Think it's Admiral who do, but apologies to them if it's someone else. However, if the question is asked - failing to tell them is fraud. So the Police advice is very wrong. Read the policy and or questionnaire carefully. Only answer what is asked, and don't volunteer additional information.

Puts paid to making quiet progress in a two speeder. Although mine will trickle along in top at 12 mph if it's flat, 20 if there is any sort of hill is still not really fast enough. So for most 20s, that'll be first gear.

I was also told not to tell my insurer.
To be fair I found the course interesting and worthwhile.
One point, we were told to be careful when leaving, there was a camera a mile down the road and the two cars in front of me got flashed!
