Arguably it is drivers who are caught going well over the limit who need the course more than those going a few mph over. It always seemed odd to me that there is no kind of tuition for them, only a fine and points, but then again, it does look suspiciously like revenue raising rather than common sense.

38 in a 30 - and offered (and accepted) the course.

My colleague at work did a course yesterday.
Over 55 on a dual carriageway with a 50 limit. He knew it was limited too.
This morning he says the course did him some good and is now more aware of road conditions etc.
Many years ago (during my seafaring days, so pre-91) a British Chief Engineer living in Florida was caught speeding. He was offered a course. Most of it, he said, was about how to avoid getting caught! grin2

I did a speed awareness course a few years ago, I found it extremely beneficial to be honest. The person running the course managed to communicate very well and I came away with a deeper insight into why limits are in place, and how the excuses for people speeding - stuff like "it's just a way of raising revenue", "I was driving perfectly safely for the conditions" and so on - are usually just masks for a kind of high-handed arrogance, a belief that "the limits are for other people, not for me", something I realised I was guilty of myself.

Now I stick rigorously to all non-NSL limits, and reserve my playing for NSL sections times when either there's no other traffic or cameras about.

It's amazing how much fun you can have on a 60mph B road without ever breaking the limit.

Quite agree, particularly the B road bit.
I've always been careful regarding non NSL limited areas... Never had a ticket (famous last words? smile ).

Just a reminder that the M1 gantries are live between Nottingham and Sheffield. Even when not displaying a reduced speed.

Given that about 30% of the traffic is doing about 80 mph when there is not a lower limit posted they must be raking it in. The limit on the Autostrada in Italy (and many other countries) is 130 kph (80.8 mph) it is not surprising many drivers feel quite comfortable at that speed.

I'm sorry to say I have lost count of the number of speeding fines I have had, all in Oz plus 2 in hirecars in the UK despite being very careful. I find it difficult to relate to miles per hour after driving in kilometres since 1974. The TV ad was even in black and white back then, colour TV was introduced 1 March 1975 oldgit

Yes quite.

I can remember being stopped for 140mph in France (on an empty péage) and being given a 900 Franc fine. Those were the days.

Now we've left the EU, I wonder if speeding tickets will follow us home from the continent?

I got nabbed last October near Donington Park after the Morgan Challenge race...

One of the Revolutions mechanic's had collapsed in the scrutineering bay and been rushed to hospital, where he later died, so I wasn't really all that with it driving back.

Anyway I took the Speed Awareness course, and I actually enjoyed it, there was some good banter and camaraderie in the room. Having come away with my slapped wrist, I decided to try and put some of the techniques talked about into practice.

The MPG on the "daddy-wagon" (yes- I drive a people carrier, because it appears to be the only way to transport a 3 year old dictator around blush ) has risen from early 40's to consistently early 50's driving with some of the techniques taught.

Just goes to show....
